Trying to decide between Tropicana and the Desert Inn for June 11 arrival date. Staying for 10 nights with my 10 yr old, will be at DL most of the time, with side trips to San Diego Zoo and Knott's Soak City planned. Cost isn't much different. Wondering about the noise, customer service, and pools. Does anyone have any feedback that might help me decide? Haven't been to the area at all--first trip to Anaheim.

Thanks!

We stayed at the Tropicana Inn in June 2009 and will be staying there again this June. Loved how close it was to the parks! Check-in and check-out were a breeze with a helpful desk clerk. Had no other issues where we needed any assistance. Parking lot is small and even though we didn't come/go often, noticed the lot was very full much of the time. Didn't use the pool or hot tub, but lots of other people were using it--large enough though it didn't look crowded. Loved having the Quizno's next door for afternoon meals during the rest break. Didn't really have a noise issue, had the AC going in the room at night which provided just enough "white noise" to cover people walking/talking outside the room... plus being dead-tired from being at the parks at opening and closing. Had room on top floor, which I woud recommend.

We are trying to decide the same thing for August.

I have stayed at the Tropicana before and they have great customer service. The rooms are clean and the kids loved the pool. I don't think there is a safe if the room though. I know that there is one at the front desk.

I hope that helps a bit.

I stayed at Tropicana and enjoyed it

Negatives: Don;t trust the "we have breakfast" deal it all charged and when we got there all the free stuff was gone

Rooms are small, had a hard time finding a spot for luggage BUT we were only there to sleep at night and the occaisonal afternoon nap so it's not like we were living in the room 24/7

Positives: Right across the street from the park you really can;t beat that especially at night with a little one and you are tired.

cheerful and nice staff, always willing to help and were very quick about things

even though I mentioned the rooms were small they are comfortable

Very quiet and we were on the first floor about ten rooms down from the lobby/office

I haven't stayed at the other hotel you mentioned, hope that helps.

The one time we stayed here, I felt the rooms were old & dingy. I am NOT that picky about my room but this is the only place that I wouldn't stay again, unless it was much cheaper than other rooms.

We normally stay at the Days Inn on Harbor just north of Ball.

We've stayed at both. I prefer the Tropicana over the Desert Inn & Suites. I found the staff to be way more helpful & friendly. We had a major issue at the Desert Inn & the mgr really wasn't going to do anything to fix it until my MIL went all nuts on him......lol (the upstairs room overflowed their tub & it was coming thru the light fixture above one of our beds....they sent a maid up to change the bedding....the mattress was SOAKED).

The Trop has the standard motel room size. Not a lot of extra room, but good enough for sleeping & showering. The Desert has large rooms & suites.....great for big families.

We didn't do the breakfast at either so can't really comment on it.

The pool at the Trop is in the middle of the parking lot, but looked nice & never looked crowded. The pool at the Desert is small & inside & it was always overflowing with people.

The parking situation is not great at either. The Desert is pretty small & tight & if you have a larger vehicle, parking is a nightmare. We always found a spot at the Trop & the larger vehicle wasn't a problem.

Both are very close to the Pedestrian Crossing to Disneyland....so great location!!!

We found the noise level at the Desert pretty bad at times. When we were at the Trop, there was a ton of noise out in the parking lot, but once inside our room, we didn't hear it.

Hope that helps!!
