Tell me about the Tropicana Inn.

We are staying with a cousin in Huntington Beach for a few days and then want to stay at DL for our last few days. I found a really good rate at the Tropicana and it looks like it's super close. I have a painful joint condition, so saving a few steps is important. Plus, with the breakfast included it appears to be a deal.

Also, any info on the Best Western Stovall's Inn?

This is our favorite spot to stay. The location cant be beat, its directly across the street from the park like a 5 minute walk to the main gate entrance. The cross walk is right outside the front doors of the hotel to the park.

The service is fantastic, they have a free continental breakfast every morning. TIP: Stay on the 3rd floor, this gives you less noise and the continental breakfast room is up on the 3rd. The Tropicana has a store attached to it as well, so if you need anything at all (Drinks, snacks, batteries, film, water bottles, first aid supplies, suns screens, hats, t-shirts etc). The store even has computers for internet access. The store is always open late even after Disneyland closing. So after a very long tiring day at Disneyland, you can grab a little snack before bed to munch on.

This location is also around tons of restaraunts so there is never a lack of places to eat before you go out on your day.

Only downfall with the Tropicana is the beds. They are quite hard, but at the end of the long busy Disney day, they feel like a cloud.

I've stayed there twice. It is overall clean, nice and RIGHT next to the crosswalk to get to Disneyland. The pool is nice and there is a good sized hot tub as well.

Last year we did find (when we were doing the end of trip room check to make sure we didn't leave anything) an empty snack cup under the bed, which was NOT from our trip, which did not speak well for housekeeping! But OVERALL, I never noticed anything else yucky.

One weird thing is there aren't any of the high "top locks" (you know where you just push it over or it has a chain on it so you can peek out the door if someone knocks) which made me really nervous because I travel by myself with my kiddos and I always worry they will sneak out or open the door if I'm taking a shower, for instance. Probably not a concern for any normal person!

They have a continental breakfast that is complimentary. They serve pastries, muffins, cereal and juice, and I think little bagels. You have to pay for milk, which I thought was weird, but it wasn't expensive milk. They also have a little shop downstairs. I had to buy t-shirts there on one stay (luggage lost ) and the prices were actually pretty reasonable. You can get waters and snacks there too. There is also a little pizza shop on-site, but I've never eaten there.

We stayed at the BW a few years back. I don't remember a ton about it but we had no complaints about the hotel at all. I think there was a bfast but I don't remember much about it. Maybe b/c my DH went and brought it back to the room while we got ready. I remember it being clean and the desk folks very nice.

The biggest drawback to the BW was having to take the shuttle bus. I was not very pleased with that service. They (at that time) did not have a good way of lining people up for the bus and it was a free-for-all at closing time at the park. Not good with a sleepy 3yo. And one night someone had thrown up on the bus and they were still running it w/o cleaning it up. NASTY! I am not a fan of taking the bus now.

We're staying at the Tropicana end of this week - mostly b/c of the good price, they don't charge extra for cribs, the fridge, and no shuttle bus! I'll let you know...

You wont be disappointed with the Tropicana then. I agree with you. The shuttle is an expensive more hassle then its worth. Some people dont mind it which is totally cool. But if you can help avoiding it... SO much better! I stayed at the America's best Inns on Ball road. It was a bit of a dive, but we had to shuttle it every day and never again.

We have stayed at the Tropicana in past visits. In fact it was our hotel of choice until we stayed at the HoJo. Would I stay at the Trop again? YES!!! The free breakfast isn't much, the pastries aren't that great but it is free and it is edible. The rooms are decent sized and the beds are OK. Not great but OK. The Minnie Mart is nice, we've stopped there on our walk from HoJo (when we walk on that side of Harbor) and picked up a few things on our way into the parks and things are reasonably priced. The pizza place is just OK. I wouldn't rave about it and honestly, if I stayed there again I might order from someplace else (delivery) but it wasn't bad. It was well priced and we ordered and the guy took our room number and delivered our pizza to us. That was really nice and unexpected. All in all, the Trop is my 3rd choice staying off-site. My first 2 are HoJo and CCI. BUT, we don't mind the walk, in your case I think the Trop is a great choice.

I'm glad to hear good things. I was looking at a few other places that are cheaper and further away from DL. I thought that if even if we drove and paid for parking I might save a few bucks but it seems like nothing gets a good tripadvisor review. I like nice hotels but really all I care about is cleanliness.

Tell me more about the hotel itself. How many floors? Interior or exterior corridors? What is a good location to request for a room? Pool? etc.

Well the good thing about this Hotel is that its so close that if you feel you need a nap or a swim or whatever it maybe, you can walk there. Then you can bypass having to catch shuttle busses to and from your hotel, the parking lots, and or the long walk back. All the while your saving TONS of money and time on parking and daily bus tickets.

We stayed there in October and had a very pleasant experience. The breakfast is limited (but the danishes were YUMMY), but anything is something. There are 3 floors in some buildings (like the one by the breakfast) and 2 in others. The whole hotel surrounds the pool, so they all are pretty much equidistant. The rooms on the first floor all have doors to the exterior. Some 2nd floor rooms have interior corridors, not sure about hte 3rd. Hope you have a great time!

One side of the hotel is three floors, the other two. Exterior corridors. We were on the ground floor and liked it as the lifts seemed really slow especially in the morning. Room was a little on the small size but perfectly fine.

Parking was free when we were there but that may have changed. Breakfast was only average so we bought cereal and milk and kept the muffins and danishes for lunch. Rooms have a small fridge and microwave.

Has a good sized pool and hottub.

Key thing is location one of the five closest hotels to DL.

We stayed there many years ago..and it was fine, but the breakfast was just kinda crummy glazed doughnuts and there was a lady policing the doughnuts saying ONLY ONE! ONLY ONE!

It's not unsafe.......I was able to lock my doors securely the 4 or 5 times we've stayed there. I didn't worry about my girls getting out ever and DBF and I tend to shower together while on vacation (sorry for tmi) so the girls were in the room "alone" while we were there.

LMAO, same lady was there for us, we just rolled our eyes at her and took what we wanted. She actually did that with EVERYthing we took....down to the apples (that weren't that great anyway). LOL

HAHA I had one guy tell off a breakfast room lady. Although I can see her point and its her job to say so, it was kinda amusing actually but I had to sympathized with the guy. First off one thing that's great about the Tropicana free breakfasts is that you can bring your breakfast to your room and eat it privately with your family. And like the rest of us who get up before the rest of the family, we go collect the breakfast. So this one younger man was heaping his tray full with 3 pasteries, some fruit, some milk, sugar, spoons, 2 coffees and some cereal.

The breakfast lady was like trying to tell him off, then walked around the counter and glared at him and tried to tell him again. He told her to chill off. He was like "IM TRYING TO FEED MY FAMILY. THEY ARE STILL IN BED, WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME AND DELIVER IT TO THEM?".

There was like 3 of us standing there watching with our eyes and mouths wide. She left the rest of us alone.

Sounds like it would be better to request a ground floor room. Anyone experience noise from the rooms above?

I know I sound picky. Actually, I kind of am no....really I just like to know everything before I travel and I always make room requests. I like to have a quiet room that is handy to things on the property.

I wouldn't be worried about anyone getting INTO the hotel room. I'd be worried about my little ones getting OUT.

My DS4 can be a real twit sometimes. He's run off at the zoo, the childrens museum, the park . . .

We liked the 3rd floor room we had best. Yes, there was some noise from above when we were on the 2nd floor. On the left side of the hotel there are only 2 floors and those rooms have interior corridor doors into your room. So overall we liked that side better.

I hear you, I just never had to worry about it with my girls. Do you have doorknob covers? Maybe that would work.

I stayed there last spring. The location is great, the rooms are decent and clean. The breakfast leaves something to be desired, but there are refrigerators and I think there were microwaves in the room, so you can DIY.
