Tropicana Inn - cockroaches?

I am booked at the Tropicana Inn for 2/16-2/22. I was just reading on Yelp and seeing a lot of reviews that said there were cockroaches there! Now I'm freaking out - trying to decide if I should change to another hotel. Anyone have any concerns with bugs at the Tropicana recently? Thanks

I last stayed there May 2019, and the room I had was extremely clean (I wipe everything down). No bugs anywhere.

I'm the same way about bugs too. I suppose you can request a 2nd floor room if you are really nervous.

Then I would probably err on the side of safety and stay somewhere else.
At least there's lots of options.

I cancelled Tropicana Inn. I was too freaked out. We are going to stay at HOJO. That's where we stayed before and I know it is nice, even though the walk is further.

I will be staying here Jan 22-26 for the first time. I have only experienced their customer service, which is really good. Usually, accommodations with good service do not have a bug problem but, because bugs are everywhere, can pop up (no matter how diligent). The places with crap service, in my experience, are places with actual problems/infestations.

I know you have switched your reservations but thought you'd like to keep it in mind :)

We have stayed there probably a dozen times and only saw a cockroach once, in April of 2019. It was huge, and slowly dying on a curtain (second floor room). We only noticed as we were checking out and my husband removed him. I told the front desk and they said it has happened a few times because of the construction next door when they tore down that hotel. We have stayed there twice since, with no problems.

Thanks for all the input. When I initially booked it, I felt positive bc of the good reviews and the good rep on these boards. However, the newer negative reviews on yelp are bad enough that I did change my reservation already. I want to be looking forward to my vacation, not having anticipatory anxiety about whether there will be roaches.

Completely understood. I still remember a condo in Myrtle Beach that my aunt and uncle took me to. That first night, the roaches came out and I am still grossed out at the memory of that stay.

Yeah, I had a similar experience at a Hilton near the Tampa airport. We were just staying one night before an early flight and there were roaches. I'm traumatized from it. I was screaming like we were being murdered when i saw them running. My parents were in the room next door and heard nothing, so they were definitely sound proofed well at least lol. They did move us to another room, where I didn't sleep a wink bc I was so skeeved and couldn't wait to get out of there. So, I'm never doing that again if i can avoid it!
