Tropicana....anyone ever stay there?

We're planning a trip with 4 adults in November and of course the typical "where should we stay?" question has us at a roadblock. Back in October the DGF and I stayed at the Best Western Pavilions and we were VERY happy with it. Nice clean room, awesome beds, liqour/convience store next door, and quiet too. The only downside (and not a very big one) was the distance from the park. The walk in the morning was fine....maybe 10 - 15 minutes. The walk at the end of a 15 hour day......not so fine, but bearable. From the maps I've looked at, the Tropicana looks really close to the park, and our friends have stayed there and said that the rooms were fine....but as we all know one person's "fine" is another person's "craphole".

So to any of you that have stayed there....what are your opinions? Any tips for this place?

Yep, we like the Tropicana. The location just can't be beat, right across the street. Our room was nice, and clean. Really nice pool area, with a good sized hot tub. Breakfast was okay, it's free. LOL We plan on staying there again.

I stayed at the Tropicana in February and thought it was fine too. Room was clean, bed was fine, and the location is great.

If you are happy with the Best Western chain, there is also the Best Western Park Place Inn right across Harbor from the entrance (and right next to the Tropicana). We have stayed there several times and find it to be a good place to stay. Either place should work fine, and you will really like the short walk back at the end of the day. The “mini-suites” at the BWPPI have 2 queen beds along with a queen fold-out coach, along with a small refrigerator and a microwave. The rooms are not fancy, but they are clean and really close to the parks.

We have never stayed at the Tropicana, but friends of ours have and they thought is was fine.

HoJo is down the street from Tropicana, one block, a 7 minute walk to DL gates, and a favorite of the DIS boards, because of the Entertainment book rate. Deluxe room $74 a night, Standard room $59 a night. I just looked up November, and hey, look at all the dates the Ent rate is available! :

November 2008:: 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 23rd, 24th, 25th, 26th, 30th

It's nicer, with inside corridors and a great pool area. Tropicana is a motel with outside corridors. But right across the street, true.

Might want to check TripAdvisor for more reviews and pictures.

HTH!

The Tropicana does have outside corridors, but our stay was very quiet. Can't say the same for our Hojo stay with the freeway noise, noise from the street, and grad night. Plus we had kids running up and down the halls yelling a lot. So I didn't really see having the halls enclosed as that much of a perk.

Our room was nice at Hojo's, and the walk isn't too bad. We could never do it in 7 minutes, more like 10 minutes, walking at a good steady pace. By the end of the night we were wishing we had stayed across the street, with tired feets! At night it was more like 12-15 minute walk, since we were slow and tired at that point! LOL

Even with the entertainment rate, we still prefer the Tropicana. JMO :)

We've stayed at the Trop, BBPPI & HoJo mostly, we like them all. The HoJo is a great hotel with great rates if you can get the Ent Rate. The walk is about 7-10 min. depending on your speed and if you use the shortcut thru the shuttle lot. Only once have I been unhappy with the room, we were right next to the freeway and yes, there was a lot of noise, made it very hard for me to sleep. The Trop and BWPPI are both right across the street, motels with outdoor corridors, never had a problem with road noise but they are more $$. :) All 3 are great choices!!

Tropicana was fine. However, when we went it was home to the doughnut nazi. Their continental free breakfast was ONE day old glazed doughnut and they had an attendant standing by to make sure you only took ONE. But the hotel was fine. Nothing fancy, but nice location and decent price.

Oh yeah, I think any of those are good choices. Everyone's milage will vary, depending on their personal experiences. With Hojo I'm sure the other buildings are quieter, and if we ever went back we'd request one of those. It also comes down to preference, and the things you are looking for in a place to stay. But all are good choices.

Ha! Doughnut Nazi ::cop: .......he better make sure he's got back-up.....especially if they're from Krispie Kreme!

I am glad to hear that y'all have had good experiences!!! We are planning on staying there next month and I always get a little jittery when staying at a new place... We are slowly making our way thru the good neighbor hotels on Harbor blvd.. :)

I stayed at the Tropicana two weeks ago, no real complaints. The room seemed very small to us but we usually stay at HoJo's, DLH, or PPH. My wife thought the beds were extremely hard but they were perfect for me (hello Sleep Number). There are a few rooms closer to the front that have interior corridors which we stayed in about 4 years ago (my preference). I made the mistake of walking from the pool back to the room without my sandals on, talk about filthy feet.

Our last three trips we stayed at the HoJo, the Carousel and the Tropicana,
Of the three Id pick the Tropicana first. The HoJo we were in the tower and our room was hanging over the highway...very noisy. Plus it was a further walk. The Carousel we found OK but not as nice as the Tropicana, which had been recently reno'd when we were there. We thought it was nice.

We stayed at the Tropicana a few years ago, and would definitely stay there again. Great location, and the room wasn't bad. Clean and comfortable. But I would recommend skipping the free continental breakfast, it's not worth it. The pastries tasted freezer-burned, and the O.J. tasted sour. Besides, there was a kid in there coughing all over everything (luckily this happened AFTER we grabbed a pastry). So, aside from that, I give it a thumbs up. :thumbsup2

Definitely not Krispy Kreme.....no way!! We don't book hotels for the free breakfasts as they are usually pretty bad.
