Tropical Storm KARL Forms!

They do skip some letters of the alphabet for names of hurricanes.

I saw a report that Africa is having severe thunderstorms, and they generally don't roll off the western side of Africa, but for some reason, they don't loose their strength and make it out to the ocean.

The weather channel is starting to say, "you're not going to believe this, but there is a tropical depression we are watching....

Dominican Republic...I was on a vacation there just out of high school years ago. We had a GREAT time! Stayed at the Embajador Hotel. Hmmmmmmmm...I wonder if that's still even around.

I was named for Hurricane Flora...

My mom, who was fairly deaf, was in labor with me while Hurricane Flora was building. It was a biggy Top hurricanes and the news was on the radio for days....

But as I mentioned my mom had very poor hearing and all the while she thought it was hurricane Laura....

If the pattern holds for this season, it's Lisa we should worry about...lets hope she never forms!!

Karl is a hurricane now. And he seems to be moving further out to sea (good thing, too). He's 105 mph winds and expected to get stronger.

That's pretty neat. Aren't you glad you aren't named Flora? I remember there were plenty of babies named Andrew in 1992.

I just watched the weather channel about half an hour ago and it seems that Jeanne is stuck in some kind of pocket where she may be able to re-strengthen She's actually being held there by--wait for it--remnants of IVAN! It seems that Ivan's remnants are looping south and will cause very gusty winds on the east coast of Florida tomorrow and Tuesday. Unbelievable! So, we will have to continue to watch Jeanne spin out there in the Atlantic.

Wow, even the Philippines have it's own Typhoon names!

PAGASA still continues to assign their own names for local use within the Philippines. It is felt that familiar names are more easily remembered in the rural areas and that having a PAGASA- assigned name helps to underscore the fact that the cyclone is within PAGASA's AOR and potentially a threat to the Philippines
