Tropical Storm/Hurricane Coming?

Yes - if anyone remembers Andrew - it didn't matter what the home was made of....:(

That is a good link except for the fact that it forecasts Dennis right over my house here in Mobile!!!! :sad2:

Yeh, I was favoring the websites that showed the eye east of me too! :teeth:

Of course, now there are none!! :sad2:

lilygator - PMs usually go through instantly.

We are leaving Sunday morning for WDW and we'll be there until Friday. To all Florida residents (or anyone else with advice), what should we do to prepare for the trip? We are staying at 2BR villa at OKW with a 7 year old and a 1 year old. I know we will have a kitchen, so food should not be a problem. But what can we do to maximize fun? Should we bring any supplies? Being from Indiana, hurricanes are not really a problem! I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Anyway, I've found another link (better than the weather channel and complements of the www.nhc.noaa.gov ). http://www.sfwmd.gov/org/omd/ops/weather/track.html

Thanks Silverangel. That is a good link except for the fact that it forecasts Dennis right over my house here in Mobile!!!! :sad2:

Guess I have to spend the day preparing for a hurricane instead of planning for my Oct. Disney trip, bummer.

Sorry to hear that! :guilty: Hope nothing happends to your home....

since you will be on property...I don't know...you may want to bring card games in case you are stuck in your room....
stores will end of having limited supplies of bottled water if in heads more this direction, people tend to go into panic mode and buy lots, I know I do....

To all of you that reply to my post about the houses, Thanks for correcting me. I forgot that some news programs tend to do that...only shows the worst things.

:goodvibes

Well we're here at WDW as planned staying through the 15th. Our trip through Dallas delayed due to thunderstorms (a sign maybe). We arrived at Old Key West at 3am Friday morning vs planned 10pm Thursday night!

Today is Sat July 9 6am. Dennis is starting to churn up past the Keys. Looks like it will stay west of the Florida coast. However, the main problem at WDW will be heavy rain, wind, lightning and severe weather. There is a Tornado Watch out till 9am for all of southern FL south of a line from Tampa to Vero Beach. An updated watch is expected shortly. Looks like the initial rain band with heavy rain will be here within next 2-3 hours, then rain off and on all day.

We're debating what to do today. I suspect park attendance will be light today and places like DTD and DisneyQuest might be packed. We cancelled and rescheduled a few outdoor activities we had planned over the next couple of days (Segway Tour, Fantasmic, etc). We've received no official word from Disney with any weather updates. I suspect they'll treat it as normal thunderstorm procedures.

Official Orlando forecast is for showers and T-storms next 1-2 days. We are in a wind advisory with gusts forecast up to 45mph later today.

I'll post if anything else comes up down here and what the weather situation is tonight as these rain bands and severe weather move through.

UPDATED 7:15am:
Tornado Watch now in effect for the entire Orlando and WDW area until 4pm today

RK~ If I were you, I'd probably see if it'd be possible to do EPCOT today. A lot of the attractions are indoors anyway. I agree that DTD will most likely be packed, what with DQ there and the movie theaters. Thanks for the report. It does look like Dennis is going to follow more of a westward path at this point. Have fun, whatever you do today! :flower:

we are getting hit with rain bands right now here is south fla and it sure is windy! I suspect this will continue throughout the day

We've never been stuck right in the middle of a hurricane - and it doesn't look like you will either - but we've dodged right between them and still always had fun. We do what so many folk don't. We don our mickey slickers and hit the parks - usually MGM for some reason. During one storm we rode RRC 10 times straight and all we had to do was run around the pavillion every 20 minutes. Fun times we'll remember forever. We owned the place.

Have a good time whatever you do! :umbrella:

I am here in Miami and we lost power at 3:00 am. So gladwe did not get a direct hit. What we got was bad enough last night.

Thanks RKDAHL for the update . My DB and his family arrived yesterday in WDW. And I was wondering what they were experiencing.Last year we were there with them for Charley. The hurricanes seem to follow them. Remind me never to go away with them again. :wave2:

The first rain bands are have started to reach the Orlando area. A little while ago, we had very strong gusty winds and a downpour for about five minutes. We will have that sort of thing for the rest of today. I live about 10 minutes from WDW property, so it will be an off and on wet day in the parks.

I am in Lee County (SW Fl), and we started getting hit with the outer-bands yesterday (Friday) at 5:30pm. We had a down pour of rain for about 30 minutes that netted me about 4 inches of rain in my driveway! We are getting pretty strong gusts of wind today, but not much rain so far. No power outages ...I don't think we will get any either unless the wind knocks something down. I am just praying that this isn't the start to another horrible hurricane season like last year :sad2:

:umbrella:
Greetings from Sarasota

All is well here in Southwest Florida. Gusty every now and then but plenty of rain.
To all in Dennis' path---- please stay safe---our thoughts are prayers are with everyone up in panhandle.

Well we have power!!!
This morning it was 183,000 without power. They have it down to around 100,000 I heard now. Lots of pixie dust to those in the panhandle. I heard a horrible story on channel 10 this morning that a family was panicking trying to evacuate the panhandle and in moving the family van to load it the father ran over and killed the 3yr old son. I am hoping it was false but it was reported. Please everyone do not panic just try to get to safety.

Bye, everyone! It looks as though Dennis is on a direct path to us here in Pensacola and we expect to be without power for at least 3 weeks (same as with Ivan). Hopefully we can at least keep our water this time. They are predicting it to hit as a strong three or four. This city can't take much after Ivan. :umbrella: Wish us luck! :wave2:
