Tropical Storm/Hurricane Coming?

I hope those storms head away so you guys can enjoy your trips! Crossing my fingers for sunny skies :sunny:

Yeah, our first trip to WDW starts Thurs. the 7th. We'll be there till the 17th. DH can't stop laughing. His boss who has been a real pain in the you know where just got fired from his job. He has sworn to get even with everyone in the Dept. His name... Dennis!

After the hurricanes last summer, I know they can be pretty tricky. I believe it was Charlie that kept changing course. Best advice for hurricane at WDW is this. Have a flashlight incase electricity goes out. Being WDW they have their own power grids and generators. So even if they lose electricity they'll use the back up generators. Make sure you have something to eat in your room. Last year I talked with many guests after the hurricane and their biggest complaint was that they didn't have any snacks or drink with them. The food courts closed early to get the CM's to their homes before the hurricane hit. Stay safe.

Each of our local news stations prepares a hurricane guide. They are available for viewing online.

If I was at WDW instead of my house during a hurricane, I think I'd feel safer. They build those resorts to withstand hurricanes. I don't know of any structural damage done last year during the hurricanes to any of the occupied resorts. (The treehouses had significant damage from tree falls, but those are unoccupied.)

We aren't going to be in WDW until the 17th but I'm already getting nervous...good luck to anyone going next week.
We're going down on the 26th - and I am also getting nervous. We were inWDW last August after Charlie? Or Frances? I can't remember but we toltally lucked out 8 days (2 weekends) no hurricane. Can we get so lucky again!

Luck to all!! :mickeybar

DH and I are leaving Fri. for our romance trip, no kids! I was evacuated from my hotel in SC during Charlie last year, a huge pain, we had to drive 7 hours to find another hotel room! Thank goodness Disney doesn't send you away. Looking forward to messy hair! :rotfl:

the CM i spoke with last night said that it's now believed it will head up the gulf to Louisiana and not hit Florida.....i'm all for that....not that i have anything against louisiana....

We are leaving for WDW on Saturday and will be there until Thursday. Then on to Disney Cruise! You bet I'm keeping an eye on things! Could be interesting!

Too early to tell. Forecasts are only good for about 3 days out.

Ohh no!

Our trip is in August from 1 to 7 and we are praying :worship: to all the gods! We don't want no storms or hurricanes!

Thanks for the update!

Wuoldn't it be nice if they REALLY could predict the path of hurricanes in advance??

Here's the scoop directly from NOAA. The Wed 5am update. Key text is quoted below:

SATELLITE IMAGES SHOW AN IMPRESSIVE CLOUD PATTERN ASSOCIATED WITH DENNIS...............IN ADDITION...BOTH SHIPS AND THE GFDL MODELS SHOW INTENSIFICATION. THE LATTER BRINGS DENNIS TO 121 KNOTS AND 935 MB...AS THE CYCLONE MOVES BETWEEN CUBA AND THE CAYMAN ISLANDS.

DENNIS IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST OR 300 DEGREES AT 14 KNOTS. THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 2 TO 3 DAYS. THERAFTER...DENNIS IS EXPECTED TO DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED AS IT APPROACHES THE WESTERN END OF THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE. DYNAMICAL MODELS ARE TIGHTLY CLUSTERED UP TO 72 HOURS...INCREASING THE CONFIDENCE IN THE FORECAST. THEREAFTER...MODELS DIVERGE AND ONE GROUP SHOWS A TRACK TOWARD THE CENTRAL GULF AND THE OTHER AN EARLIER TURN TO THE NORTH OVER THE EASTERN GULF. THE OFFICIAL FORECAST IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CONSENSUS.

I'm not worried about the hurricane while I'm in Florida (on the ground), I worry about it when I'm in the plane trying to land in Florida. We're supposed to land at MCO on Saturday at 2:20 p.m.
Can anyone tell their stories about flying with a hurricane near?
Thanks, Cindy :worried:

I flew around that big one hit South Carolina area several years ago - can't remember the name now - Oh, Hugo - just hit me. Anyway, even flying around it was not fun. The plane kept making sudden small drops. I was a nervous wreck by the time I got off. The crew didn't act like it was a big deal though.

Listening to Tampa weather right now on abcactionnews. Weatherman said there are 2 high pressure systems that will push the system west. If these high pressure systems strengthen, it will push the hurricane more west. If they weaken, then the hurricane track will push more east. This is what happened with Charlie last August. Here's hoping it weakens and dies out.

That's what I was afraid of . . . My 9 yo DD is just starting to say she is afraid of flying this year. I guess mom will have to put on a brave face and says "oh, this is normal"!!!!!
Thanks for your input,
Cindy

Didn't mean to scare you - remember Hugo was huge!! Dennis is not thought to be near as big.

I know what you mean. My DD 13 is not too keen on flying either. Had to convince her to come this year. She didn't want to because of the plane. We are headed down on July 21st, let's hope for great weather that day and after that.....It could snow I don't mind I,m in WDW.
