Tropical Palms Resort-
The Tropical Palms Resort, bordering Walt Disney World Resort, offers individual studio & 2 bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens and sleeping lofts for kids. Each suite has a private deck with 4 chairs and a picnic table. Tropical Palms is only minutes away from Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, Pleasure Island, Universal Studios and Sea World. The resort also borders Old Town, where you can walk to over 80 shops, rides & restaurants.

From what I can gather, these are cabins of sort....I can't find the actual website for whoever owns them, I can only find info re:trip advisor- travelocity, etc... what I'd like to know...

Has anyone stayed here?

Is Old Town an area we want/should be in...

We will have our truck, so transportation to the world etc.. are no problem....

Any info that you can offer is greatly appreciated...I have searched (PAGE BY PAGE) back 12 pages...since the search feature is once again not working...and I can't find any info on this property.

Thanks
Brandy

Hi Brandy!

We stayed there in Sept. of 2001 and absolutely LOVED it!! Great location - great people - great cottages - great pools (1 for adults and 1 for kids) - great (CHEAP) poolside cafe for breakfast and lunch - great proximity to stores, restaurants, etc. (within walking distance to Old Town) - great laundramat facilities - etc..

Oh - did I mention we thought it was GREAT ??????? LOL

Feel free to PM me with questions.

Here are some answers to your questions:
Q1: "Has anyone stayed here?"
ANS: Yes, more than once.
Q2:"Is Old Town an area we want/should be in..."
ANS: This is difficult to answer because it depends on what you want in lodging. It is very close to the World Drive entrance to WDW on route 192. It is about 3 miles east of that entrance.
It is very close to many restaurants, a Publix grocery store, many places to shop, and close to an exit from I-4.
It is also close to Celebration and to the Celebration Hospital. It is quiet except on Saturday nights when the noise from Old Town is somewhat noticeable but not disturbing.

The question is: what do you want in your lodging? If you can be a bit more specific, then it would help to give you more information. I was always pleased with the stays at Tropical Palms.

A suite- cabin- , what have you, with a seperate sleeping area...this will help get the DD's to bed at a resonable hour on our non-park nights, and keep DH and I from having to sit in silence, in the dark while they fall asleep...they will be moved to the pull-out when DH and I are ready to go to bed.

We will be doing the studio cabin- if we chose this resort, as the one with the loft- well, DD2 who is 6 wakes 2-3 times a night- for drinks, bathroom (have no fear, she does this on her own, never wakes me...though just her walking wakes me..)... i do not want her to be waking up to use the bathroom, and fall from a loft...no matter how close to the hospital we are!

Being in Old Town sounds cool- we will not be there on Saturday- so noise is okay...

192- thats the main road with all those minigolf places and 5 million hotels? Thats good to be close to that..

The decks look nice- a nice place to recap our evening...

The full kitchen will be nice- as we will use the publix for groceries upon arrival, and purchase some breakfast items, snacks, and drinks etc...

Being 10-15 minutes from Main Gate is okay...we'll have our truck, so transportation is not a problem....I know some people say "you dont have the magic off site"...but I can tell you if my girls wont go to sleep because they are in the only room in the hotel, and if we turn on the tv they stay awake, there will be no magic on our vacation....The only way to accomodate the room that I need, is going to end up costing us 2-300 per night...where I can get the studio cabin here, for 59 per night, plus tax...I'm going to end up paying more for a hotel on our drive down that I am for a cabin...

Please feel free to give me as much info as you have time for...I am eager to absorb it!

From your description, it appears to me that Tropical Palms will fit your plans well.
Route 192, otherwise known as Irlo Bronson Highway does have many hotels/motels and all of the restaurant chains. The Publix is two minutes away, just across the highway.

The guest relations staff is always accomodating and the pools are fun, but not too crowded. It is also nice to be in a place with good landscaping and will walking places to go explore.

Have fun and enjoy it.

Go to there website- on the left- click the "vacation cottages" or something like that...then when the page displays- there is a pink cabin and a blue cabin- hover over the "room view" button under each picture- you dont click- just hover with your mouse, and a new box will open with the layout..it's not a picture- but it gives you an idea of where everything is...the pink house is a 2 bedroom, the blue is the 1 room...

If you have a popup blocker- shut it off, as I sat here for hours until C. Ann told me it was a popup window...DUH ME!

We stayed there a couple of years ago for 2 nights and enjoyed out stay. We had the largest model, the 2bdr. The cottages are actually RV's made to look like cottages. It is much better than a hotel room, however, its not as large as a condo. We enjoyed being able to park right in front of our cottage. Our teenaged sons could play basketball, and they were also able to skateboard. The staff was very courteous and friendly. There was a nearby Pizza Hut where we ordered a large pizza for dinner. There is a kitchen but it is small & I never cooked anyway. We ate breakfast at the cafe at the pool. It was very reasonable. Lunches, we ate at the parks, and dinner was usually a large pizza or dinner out. We did use the fridge to store our leftovers. I think the square footage is about 500 sq ft or something like that. Make sure its the right size for your family.
