I know we've been over and over this, but I still don't get it. I know that shorts are not recommended for evening dining in the themed restaurants. I know that on tropical night the Navigator suggests "Tropical" attire.

To a certain man that I've known for 30+ years, tropical attire means a loud Hawaiian shirt and shorts.

I know that we won't be asked to leave, but will this be offensive to those who are true followers of Disney's suggestions.

What do you think?

I know this has been "debated" here a lot, but just the other day I was looking at Ducklite's web pages from her cruise aboard the Disney Magic, and on this page, if you scroll all the way down to the picture on that page that says "Requested Diningroom attire" you will see that next to the night with the Tropical theme, it says "(shorts may be worn)". There is it, right in black and white from Mickey's own mouth, so to speak! :p http://hometown.aol.com/ducklite/cruise02/miscphotos.html

Ducklite: Your pics are great! I hope you don't mind me posting the link to one of the pages here.

May I say this, I was on the Magic last week, and I wore shorts with my tropical shirt, and I did not feel the least out of place. There were many wearing shorts that night, and I didn't see anything wrong with it. There was no mention of no shorts on our daily navigator either b/c I checked it, cover to cover. The only place there was mention of no shorts or jeans was at Palo. At lunch on Tuesday, someone that was sitting at our table went up and asked one of the restaurant managers about wearing short to dinner later that night, and he was told that dress shorts would be fine.

Shorts are SPECIFICALLY encouraged on tropical night as others have said, most definitely feel free to wear them. Our servers on the ship even mentioned that the men should feel free to wear shorts and tropical shirts that night.

As the previous posters have stated, nice shorts are welcome and encouraged by the restaurant staff for Tropi/Mexi nights as I wore them myself on our cruise last week.....Andy

Thanks, everyone! Especially SeaSpray--seeing this in print was the best confirmation.

My husband hates wearing a suit on formal and semi-formal nights, so it's a good idea when I can encourage him to wear shorts to that one dinner.

I'm basically a "follow-the-rules" sort of person--I never really mind when other people wear jeans/shorts, but I HATE having them pointed out to me by the people I have asked to wear suggested clothing. So, now that I consider it, I guess I do mind when others dress so casually in the dining rooms--I get a lot of flack from the rest of my family.

cool shorts and a loud shirt works for me LOL at least i will wear nice shorts on that nite

We LOVED Tropical nite!
Rest assured that shorts are fine for this occassion!!
Our men/boys wore shorts and Caribbean shirts, the ladies/girls bright flower dresses.
To make it all the better, we were in Parrot Cay and it was a fun time for all!!

Better nice shorts than nothing at all!

On our May cruise we saw no mention of the no shorts rule and were encouraged by our servers to wear shorts. Others sailing around the same time said they asked and were told no shorts. After that I believe it was in June or July the Navigators spelled out the no shorts wording. Based on Andy's experience only a week ago I guess they have relaxed that as well. I say plan on shorts and enjoy for this one night as it adds to the fun!
