I am trying to figure out the best strategy...want to help? It is hard to for me mentally to spend $80 on one ride, but here we are...
I already bought ILL for GoG, so hopefully we are set there.
ETA: We are going next week!

If you are pressed for time or if this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip I would lean toward getting the ILL.

I would not suggest using your 6 p.m. Extended Evening Hours Drop on it. Even with a virtual queue, I waited more than an hour in a real line and wasted a lot of my Extended Evening Hours on it. You can do a lot of rides with no waits during EEH. Don't waste that time in line!

If I missed the morning and 1 p.m. virtual lines then I might spring for the ILL, which moves much faster than the virtual line.

So you are thinking that perhaps the ILL will still be available if we don't get the virtual queue?

"Best" is subjective and depends on various factors like your budget. I personally would NOT pay anything extra just to ride something @ Disney. Admissions tickets already cost a LOT and seems like you should NOT have to pay extra when the price of admission is supposed to include all of the shows/rides. I refuse to pay extra just because DIsney can't seem to manage the crowds and/or build rides with sufficient capacity. Tron is a carbon copy of the ride in Disney Japan which has significantly smaller attendance. Disney had to know there were creating a capacity issue by duplicating that ride @ Disneyworld.

I would use the disney app the next day or two to see how late Tron is available for purchase to see if you really need to do that. My guess is you will see ILL availability during the day so that you do not need to purchase until absolutely necessary. I think it is always best to try the VQ at 7AM and then go from there if you do not get the ride. I wouldnt waste the time doing the extended evening hours.

That ship sailed and the OP isn't asking about that.

That would be my suggestion as well, the downer is there does seem to be kinks they are working out for the new system as far as how many LL to give and what time of day to do it as but VQ has been going on for longer and probably less likely to run into inventory issues as fast as the new LL system is.

Sorry, I’m confused- will you be around for the second VQ drop and in the evening when you’d return for that? If so I’d save the $80 and try for the morning VQ and if no success try at 1pm for the afternoon VQ which is generally easier to get than the morning VQ.

I wouldn’t pay for Tron. It’s a fun ride, but after being on it the first time in March it won’t be a must ride for us. We would do it, but we wouldn’t pay for it.

You shouldn’t have any issues getting a VQ. Maybe the morning one but the 1 pm I’ve read isn’t as hard to get.

I would always try the virtual queue first - for us with Tron, a couple of weeks ago, first time we got a very early group which was great and we rode it during just early entry and walked on. Second time we got a high group, it took ages to be called and I just bought a ride for a time that suited us. But there's no downside to trying the VQ first, and I never saw it being an issue buying a Tron LL the entire two weeks we were there.

I just don’t love Tron so I voted VQ. If it’s a must ride for you then I would buy the ILL for the am.

We are coming up for the weekend and this will be my daughters first time to try and ride it. I was going to book the ILL as I wanted to guarantee she'll get to ride. But when I saw the price would be $80 for our family I said no way.

It’s good, but it’s absolutely not $20 for barely two minutes of entertainment good. But what it?

We bought it because DH is a huge fan, and we couldn't get VQ. Not only that the ride was down multiple times that day as well. ILL$ was guaranteed where those with later VQ got bumped. However, I guess when we rode there was supposed to be music with the ride as riders were screaming behind us where's the music. It was like riding Test Track without the audio which we've experienced before. Wouldn't pay for Tron again due to that experience. However, like I said, DH is a huge fan, and he was happy with the experience.
To me Tron was a one and done ILL$. Where we would repeatedly ILL$ Rise due to the immersive experience and every time we get a good laugh out of it.

I use time.is on my laptop and have the app open on my phone.
I have been successful getting a boarding group every time at the first drop. I was never higher than group 8.
Time.is always showed my laptop as being 3 - 8 seconds behind.

If you won't be back to WDW for several years, I'd buy it for whoever wants to ride it.

I think it's fun, but not one of the best attractions in WDW. Personally, I'd go for the VQ. I don't need to pay to ride it.

DH loves it, so he would pay to ride it and go for the VQ.

We visit WDW often, so I won't pay for any LLSP. I will do the LLMP.

Reality is I am a planning Diva and don't like leaving things to chance. So I will always but the LL because I don't want to lose the VQ gambling game.

With Gaurdians I did both and got to ride 2x

THIS^ We have always gotten a time whenever we have tried VQ.

THIS^ I would pay for GoG every day of my trip but I don't pay for TRON.
