Ok, ok, I know that TRON doesn't have a ride, but credit this thread to alvernon90 in another thread to come up with the idea.

Maybe Disney should create a TRON ride in tomorrowland!

If they did, let's hear your ideas on how the ride would be?

but, but, Tron is so "80's" and technologically antiquated. It doesn't make you look to the future at all. I think a ride based on Incredibles, Wall*E or something more futuristic is called for in Tomorrowland.

I agree! And I am old enough to remember Tron when it was originally in the theatres, sadly, but I would bet that a lot of folks on DISboards have no clue what Tron is without doing an Internet search. Wall*E would be a perfect, current, futuristic movie to base a ride around in TL.

Now if they would only get rid of that old and tired Honey I Shrunk the Audience.....

Didn't they have a Tron section in the People Mover? Or am I making that up? I just want them to add something to Tomorrowland.

Yes, they did. You are not making it up! It was kind of a loud segment of the People Mover ride. Now, Tron I could do without, but I do wish they would bring back an updated (and up-to-code) version of the People Mover!!

I think Tron might work when they release the sequel named TR2N for 2011. It is said that Pixar will play a part in the movie, so naturally this ride could be a natural for tomorrowland....see this link

That's a good point. At least it will introduce Tron to many of the younger Disney fans who never knew about the first Tron, so it will have a new audience. I think we all agree - they need to do something with Tomorrowland. I am glad they added in Astro Blasters, but they need more stuff!

In the present, I think Wall-E has great potential. Make it an E-Ticket where you start on Earth, 'Blast Off' to the ship, explore it, escape the guards, etc...

To add to my debate, in 1998 Tomorrowland was redesigned when its focus was changed to present a "retro-future" theme.

I agree Wall-E would be great the movie was VERY cute. I preordered in bluray before it released. I think a Wall-E ride using the song Down to earth from the movie would get more people. I NEVER liked Tron just was not entertained by it, and with tomorrowland having Jedi acadamy, Star Tours, and space mountain I don't really feel Tron being a good fit.

I think that the issue with Tomorrowland is that it has to be advanced, but its always seeming to get behind. I think the retro idea was cute in theory it never worked because of some bad choices.

I think if they want to go retro getting back retro rides but with modern twists is a great way to go, get back people mover, move the Astro blasters back to there perch.

With a new Tron I dont think that is a terrible idea, I think that Tron has the right visuals for Tomorrowland. I was never a huge fan of the film, but the visuals were interesting and it does have a sort of retro thing going too.

I will admit as much as I love Wall-E I get nervous when Disney does film focused rides and attractions from newer films, because while they might be big at the time you are never sure how long they have before being as dated at HISTA. Toy Story and others have proven themselves as it has been quite a while since their first release and the kids not even born then all love it too! I hope Cars and Wall-E hold up (especially since I love Wall-E), but what if they end up as the Black Cauldren of Disney films???

I would love to see modern versions of Mission to Mars and things like that, that have an ageless quality and history that would be fun for everyone!

I loved Tron. I suppose that's weird coming from a girl, but I just did. I probably watched it 30 times back in the 80s. (on Beta)

Wall-E.....not so much. It was okay, and I know I'm in the minority on this, but my family thought it was a little boring, and a bit too feel-good cutesy. Tomorrowland doesn't need feel-good cutesy IMHO.....but then I'm in a family of all boys, and we all like fast, action packed, and furturistic, so........:goodvibes

I'm excited about TR2N coming out.:thumbsup2

We did all love The Incredibles though.....obviously. An Incredibles ride in Tomorrowland would be a welcome change/addition for this family! (We want an Incredibles 2 movie!)

We of course would also eagerly welcome a Tron ride. Sure the movie is kind of 80s-ish, but slap in some laptops, get rid of those skinny ties, and it's good to go! ;) :rotfl:

I remember that too, it was my favorite part of the ride. I don't remember it much, I only did it once, maybe twice but I loved the PM and want it back!!!!
I'm you Sherry, bring back our PM!!!!

I hadn't heard they were doing a sequel, but DBF and the kids and I watched it not too long ago (I got DBF the original for Christmas, you should have seen his face when he opened it up lol, he was like a kid on....well...Christmas morning lol) and we were saying how much "better" it could be with todays technology. Hmmm, someone was listening to us. LOL

My kids know Tron but I don't know if I would say they are "fans" really. They did like it but they don't ask to watch it. I think a new movie will bring in new fans and that would be good. TL does need some work, I hope someone out there is listening to us here...

Sigh... Another movie to add to my Netflix queue... Being a 90's baby I have never seen Tron... And I wasn't there when the People Movers were still alive... I mean, Tron WAS referenced in the game Kingdom Hearts 2, and that's about as much exposure as I have lol.

I will say though, that from that exposure, along with the retro future theme of Tomorrowland, that I think a Tron ride would work okay. I'd have to speculate what they'd do though, and how much of a turn-out there'd be on the opening day of that ride.

I'm a big sci-fi fan (books and movies) but Tron was never that exciting to me. Star Tours is a bit worn down and I wish they would modernize it. But most of all I would love to see a new version of Inner Space! Just think what they could do with that ride now!! :cheer2:

Light Cycles, anyone? ;)

Oh I know, you could choose from Grid Bugs, Light Cycles, MCP Cone or Tanks.

Probably based on Light Cycles somehow...not sure if it would be a Space Mountain-ish ride, or an Indiana Jones Adventure-ish type ride...am I missing something?

The new Tron movie is supposed to be in Disney 3-D... I thought it was going to be a remake, not a sequel? Hmm. Interesting.

I like the movie. Very 80s and very entertaining. I don't know how I'd feel about it as a ride at DLR though....

In all fairness, I brought up TRON as a joke in the other thread, but this is a great thread so I'm going to take the credit that Brian unfairly gave me.

I also remember the TRON section of the Peoplemover, though at WDW, because it taught me an important life lesson: if you show up at the Magic Kingdom and you want to go on a slow ride because you just finished drinking your way around the World Showcase at Epcot, the Peoplemover isn't such a great idea because of the TRON section. Oy!
