"Tron: Legacy" May Fall Short at Box Office

It could very well still be worth purchasing on Blu-Ray when it's released.

It willl look spectacular on Bluray, especially Bluray 3D if you have one (and a good 3D TV). The story isn't mind blowing and is quite predictable almost always, but the visuals are pure eye candy in its highest form. Whatever didn't look realistic in the original Tron is totally believable in the new one.

It's funny you mention that...because eye candy has a ridiculously short shelf life.

Everybody and their brother saw avatar last year...but i haven't heard mention of it for 6 months...even with the bluray/dvd release.

somethings about movies haven't changed: the better story is far more memorable and hold more potential earning power than the techno flik.

tons of examples....the first 3 star wars (and those stories were sometimes choppy and poorly acted) as compared to the last 3 (made first 3 look like Citizen Kane)
The first pirates (which i remember everyline) to the last two (which i've seen the same amount of times and remember almost not one word)

Tron isn't a flop...that is for sure...but it's not gonna have legs...that is all but certain as well.

If they don't make what they targeted...they can always raise prices 5% across the board at WDW to supplement.

...now my stock feels better:banana::love:

160 million dollar budget before any distribution and 3rd party fees....

like i said...its not a flop - but it isn't a smash either

tron 2 is not likely

yes, I never expected it to be a smash hit, but more to continue the legacy of the orginal cult following....I think Disney will see most of their true profit from games/merchandise/franchise, etc....but a dollar is a dollar and that is all that matters. But the predictions of it "falling short" don't seem to be coming true...

Just because something isn't "mentioned" frequently anymore doesn't mean it isn't still being enjoyed - there are just new things to talk about.

The Last Starfighter is cheesy and the state of the art at the time computer animations are terribly basic compared to modern capabilities, much like the original Tron, but I still have The Last Starfighter on Bluray and watch it and enjoy it.

We are reaching a point where eye candy is almost entirely indistinguishable from reality. We "know" in our brains that something must be CGI but our eyes can't tell a difference. Even a few years ago you could tell something was green screened. Now? Almost entirely seamless. Will I look back in ten years and be able to tell a difference? Probably, but that won't change the fact that it will still "look" like part of the reality of the film and won't limit my enjoyment, just as all those Tye Fighters on invisible sticks banking across the Death Star don't limit my enjoyment of Star Wars.

Sometimes I just want to enjoy a fun movie without having to think my way through Inception.
