I haven't seen much discussion about the subject of tripods. I was wondering if people use them much, or if they get in the way. We have a combination digital camera video camera, and what seems to work best for us is to just let the video tape run, and then clip digital pictures off it later. We end up getting MUCH more realistic pictures than the typical "say CHEESE"! The only problem is standing there holding the camera gets a little heavy. It works pretty well on a tripod, but if the tripod would bother other people, I won't bring it.

I'd sure appreciate people's inputs!

I don't recall anyone using a tripod on our cruise last year. I imagine they would get in the way most of the time on the ship since there are so many people, it might get bumped.

We've never been on the Disney cruise before so I don't know about crowds but we were at the MVMCP in December and my DH used a mini tripod on our digital camera. He set it up on one of the trash cans and was able to take some really nice shots using all the gizmos he has on the camera. This was during the parade and the fireworks and the street was very crowded. Most people are careful when they see you and a few stopped to look at some of the pictures he'd taken. I don't know if this helps you but he's going to do the same on our Eastern Caribbean cruise in September. Hopefully, it'll work out the same.

I use a monopod. It's just a straight stick. I find it easier to carry and use than a tripod. I didn't use it on the cruise because you're not supposed to take video of the shows but I did use if for the Discover the Magic show the kids were in. We use it to tape the shows at WDW.

I vote for the monopod. The only time a tripod is really needed is when you want to take a timer-delayed shutter-release photo so you can get in the photo... but there's no shortage of bystanders on the ship that would be willing to snap the photo for you.
