Hello all- I just discovered these forums last night!:goodvibes we're we're thinking of a trip out west next fall- and I am completley LOST just thinking about it! I have read some here, and already am learning, but I guess an intital question is....what is a good season to visit? i.e. grand canyon, disneyland, vegas or Phoenix...etc. was thinking early fall type of trip.....but I'm so unfamiliar with all things west!

Fall is really hot in LA. But better in the inland desert. It's a bit of give and take.

Really hot in LA? I don't think its ever really hot in LA, lol! :) There's always a nice ocean breeze! Of course, I live in Phx, so its all relative I suppose.

Aug/Sept is still very hot in Phx...90s-110s. Oct/Nov/Dec starts to cool off...80s-90s, 70s if we're lucky. By Jan the monsoons have started up again so its cools down a lot...60s-70s! Yay! :D Vegas weather will be similar. Both are deserts.

Grand Canyon/Northern AZ is a completely different story. Its up in the pines/mountains so its very cool there. By Sept its cooled off nicely, and by Dec there's usually snow.

So a good month would be Sept/Oct. Warm enough to do the beach thing in LA, but cool enough in Phx to not completely melt, and gorgeous in Northern AZ, but no snow to mess with!

Yes, LA basin is warmest in the fall as the heat comes east from the desert not from the ocean. At this time it is cooling elsewhere.
