Trip to WDW after a hurricane...anyone been through this??

Has anyone gone the week after a hurricane has come through? What have you found...

I mean that's 2.5 million that had to be evacuated and how long does it take them to get back home and how might they affect our trip? Would some of them /any of them actually decide to go to DisneyWorld during the time they are evacuated? Or are they expecting fewer crowds because of the storm?

Ideas?? thank you!

Well, we were there with Charley. We 'checked in' the same day!! Life at WDW got back to normal incredibly quickly. Some things were a little slow since a lot of the CM's couldn't get there as easily as usual. I would say that after about Monday things were really normal. Things were so normal at WDW, that we were shocked at the destruction going back to the airport a week later!!! I think that if you are going down a week after Francis, you should be fine. Now, what's the story with Ivan???

We were at WDW in 1995 when Erin blew through. The day after the hurricane, about 30% of the bus drivers couldn't make it to work and there were quite a few trees down on Disney property. But the parks opened on time and were remarkably empty. I suppose this was because the usual bunch of travellers that would have been arriving at WDW that day were delayed.

Thank you for sharing your experience....

The main reason we are going is that we recently lost our home to a fire and lost 2 cats and a pet chinchilla - we were out of town when it happened - it was an electrical fire.

We needed a "Fun" family trip - my DH, DD10, and me. It was awful losing all that you own and pets...so we are trying to have some fun together!

I can truly understand the fear of the residents of Florida. They are definately in my prayers!
