My husband had actually suggested a trip to Disney, but we ultimately decided it would be too crowded, so we headed down to Savannah instead!
We rented a condo in Tybee island. It was a15-20 minute drive back and forth to Savannah, and the beaches were very crowded, but having the beach there was wonderful for our sons (9, 5, 5). They liked coming back to a little beach time at the end of a busy day of touring. We liked having a kitchen, a living space and 3 bedrooms.
We did the on and off trolley tour one day. The first ride through, we rode the entire time to get an overview and history. We also noted where we'd like to get off later in the day. That plan really worked for us! We had lunch that day at the Pirate's House.
The next day, we went out to Ft. Pulaski, just off Tybee Island. VERY impressive! They were shooting off the cannons, doing guided tours and had quite a few reenacters in uniform. We learned a lot. There is an underground tunnel system that my boys had a blast exploring.
The azaleas were in full bloom and coupled with the Spanish Moss, the city was breathtakingly beautiful.
