We're looking to take a weekend trip to Savannah (I know, not Disney, but Disney is next year). Can anyone recommend places to stay, places to eat, things to do?

I have not been in a few years but it is wonderful there. WE really enjoyed the dolphin tour it was something Mike's and my daughter loved eating at the pirate house. We went to Juliette Low's house(it was a girl scout trip). We also went on a walking ghost tour, it was not the cheezy type it included some great history info. The girls liked going to the beach also. The riverfont has some shopping and they had a candle making store and then there is a shopping are across the street that had some things the gitrs liked like candy shops and such. Hope this helps.

Hi! Love Savannah! My In-laws live there and we love to visit.

Riverstreet (not riverfront) does have a lot of kitchy little shops to look at..fun to go to and look around.

Lady and Sons was yummy...but reservations in advance are a must.

Casual lunch I'd recommend Vinny Van Go Go's...great pizza near Riverstreet.

Lots of touristy stuff to do, historical tours, carriage toaurs, haunted tours

A few great malls in the area as well.

Not far are the Tanger outlets near Hilton Head

And of course the beach out by Hilton Head (about 45 minutes away from Savannah)

Have fun and enjoy!:goodvibes

We've stayed at both the Hilton Savannah Desoto and the Hyatt Regency Savannah. Both are nice...the Hilton is a little more historic while the Hyatt is right on the river. We got a great rate last May the Hyatt for a standard view room and it ended up having a fantastic view of the river.

River Street is nice to wander around up and down. The whole historic district is fun to walk around in. There is so much history.

The drive to Tybee Island is really nice and quick and you are on the beach within about 30-40 minutes.

The Lady and Sons is wonderful and The Pirate House is fun to eat at, too.

We've done the Dolphin Encounters cruise a few years ago and really liked it. We didn't do it last year because we had a newborn with us, but we can't wait to do it again.

DH and I were trying to come up with something for a 3 or 4 day weekend trip this July. Since he doesn't want to go dig for gems in Hiddenite, NC (darn, the kids would've loved that!) He suggested Savannah.

I can't remember much (we went there oh 20 years or so ago) and I seem to remember an old fort somewhere near Savannah too.

My husband had actually suggested a trip to Disney, but we ultimately decided it would be too crowded, so we headed down to Savannah instead!

We rented a condo in Tybee island. It was a15-20 minute drive back and forth to Savannah, and the beaches were very crowded, but having the beach there was wonderful for our sons (9, 5, 5). They liked coming back to a little beach time at the end of a busy day of touring. We liked having a kitchen, a living space and 3 bedrooms.

We did the on and off trolley tour one day. The first ride through, we rode the entire time to get an overview and history. We also noted where we'd like to get off later in the day. That plan really worked for us! We had lunch that day at the Pirate's House.

The next day, we went out to Ft. Pulaski, just off Tybee Island. VERY impressive! They were shooting off the cannons, doing guided tours and had quite a few reenacters in uniform. We learned a lot. There is an underground tunnel system that my boys had a blast exploring.

The azaleas were in full bloom and coupled with the Spanish Moss, the city was breathtakingly beautiful.

my oldest daughter goes to Savannah College of Art & Design so
I visit savannah often. I like the historic district and really enjoy staying at the Eliza Thompson House. Savannah is a great walking town.

Ford Plantation in Richmond Hill (south of Savannah) is supposed to be nice. We used to live in Richmond Hill when DH was stationed near there, but we never went. Kevin Barry's is a good Irish Pub on River Street in Savannah.

We went in Jan and camped at River's End on Tybee Isand. We really liked
Savannah. It is a beautiful city and you can walk everywhere. If you eat at The Pirate's House you can take a tour with Capt. Jack Sparrow. The actor that gives the tour is very good. The tour is free, but a tip is welcomed. The only disapointment for us was the museum near the art school. But they had a nice gift shop. My grandaughter is still talking about the southern belle doll I bought her there.

We stayed at the Disney resort in Hilton Head for our 10th anniversary, and then stopped in Savannah at the end of the trip. My DH is a US History teacher, so we had a tough time narrowing things down! Definitely take a carriage tour of the squares. We stayed overnight at Marshall House and had dinner at Lady and Sons. I would highly recommend all of those!

Savannah is beautiful! Enjoy!

When we go to Hilton Head we always take a ride over to Savannah. The Lady and Sons is a definite "must do" for us.
