Planning a trip for Sept 8 to DL for 10 days staying at the RAMADA INN MAINGATE. Want to avoid busy times. Is this a good time to go? What are the wait times? Is there anyway to tell what the ride closures for that period are? Wanting to buy passes to DL, Six Flags, and Knotts water park, where is the best and most affordable place to buy? Any info on any of this would be greatly appreciated. THANKS PRIOR

Sept. is a great time to go for low crowds, but the trade off is that you will get some rides that are closed and the shows and fireworks do not happen every night - usually on the weekends only. The good news is you can do most everything in a day so with 10 days to fill you can do everything multiple times as long as it is open.

The two best places to buy DL tickets (can't help you with the others) are Disneyland.com or Ares Travel. Disneyland.com tickets are priced a little bit higher, but they don't charge you to ship. Ares does charge a shipping fee so it depends on how many tickets you are going to get to see which is the best deal.

Have a GREAT trip.

I did tell someone else too about Six Flags - if you're speaking of Magic Mountain please be careful, I've heard some not so great things lately from people in that area that gangs have taken over to an extent so it's not as safe for families. It's also just sold or in the process of the sale.

The DL Half-Marathon is the weekend before (Sept. 1 - 3), and I believe Gay Days is in early October, so I think this is probably a good time to go; schools are just back in session, so weekdays should be good unless there's a major convention in town. The weekend will probably still be busy with a lot of locals going.

Thanks to all for the info. Just one quick addition. We had to change our holiday to Sept 1-10, instead of 8-17. Is this going to be much different for crowds?

September 1-3 is Labor Day weekend so you should expect much larger crowds since it is a holiday. A good crowd gauge is to check out the calendar on Disneyland.com and see what hours the park will be open. The longer the park is open, the more crowded Disney expects it to be. For example Sept 1 is open from 8AM to 11PM and on Sept 4 it is open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (5 hours less) so they expect a lot fewer people on the 4th (Tuesday) than on the 1st (Saturday)

The good news is that all shows and entertainment should be operating for that long weekend.

That weekend will be very busy with the holiday and the marathon. The weeks just prior and just after may have some spill-over from the marathon, but I'm not sure how many people that might mean.

You'll still have fun. If you're a crowd hater like me you might want to re-think it, but if you can take deep breaths and get through it, go and enjoy! It's still DL!
