DH and I are newly expecting our first child in later September. We have 2 trips planned this year to stay in our newly purchased BWV (studio). I am thinking we can still go while I am pregnant for our first trip at the end of May, but I need to do something about our early October trip. I want to wait until my 2nd trimester to make sure all is okay, but at that point, I am not sure what to do.

For those of you who have travelled to WDW with infants, what is it like? How soon did you go after the baby came? Would you do things differently? DH and I have travelled to WDW sooo many times kidless, so I am thinking it will be quite an adjustment.

We would probably timewise rather like to go before Thanksgiving, but I suspect I will be pretty overwhelmed at that time. We are not interested in going over the holidays, and really prefer to go when we know it will be pretty warm (pool weather) at least, so does that mean we stretch this out until March or so?

I know many people (mostly non Disney freaks) would wait until their kids can get something out of it - probably toddlers or older, but we are open to going sooner. I just have no idea what it will be like trying to get on a schedule, etc. or how I will feel. We are from Illinois, so a flight would be inevitable.

I was just curious about your thoughts and experiences in going to WDW with a baby. Also, any thoughts about travelling to WDW when about 5 months pregnant?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Talk to your OB/GYN and get his/her thoughts on both. I'd imagine the May trip would be OK since I've seen a lot of women who had to be at least 5 months pregnant in WDW. You just won't be able to enjoy the ride. And remember, May gets pretty hot and humid.

About taking that new of a baby in October--I'd personally be reluctant just because of the germ factor, the pressure changes on ascent/descent of the plane on the baby's ears, and just that you'll be undergoing some major hormonal changes post delivery as well as being tired. You might enjoy the trip more if you wait a while. Have you picked a pediatrician yet? Ask him/her.

Thanks for the response fkj2...I probably wasn't clear, but I know we won't be going in October...I was toying with stretching it out to mid November...that's about as late as I can make it (or as early as I think we could go). Baby would be about 2 months then, and while I agree with you on the germs and hormones, etc., just curious if others have done it that soon. I imagine we will have to postpone until spring, but at any rate, I wanted to hear from all you experts on travelling with an infant and get your advice on going with infant of various ages.

As far as May goes, I figured I would get my OB approval prior to going. I am really waiting to wait until after first trimester to do ANYTHING since you never really know, but it's hard not to think about it anyways.

Thanks for your input!

Well, first of all Congratulations! You have a lot of exciting things to plan for this year (Disney trips and a new baby). You are very lucky!

I have been to Disney several times pregnant....at 8 months and at 6 months (different pregnancies). There are certain rides that you cannot do which I'm sure you know. Other than that, it just meant resting more and drinking more fluids. As long as all is going well with your pregnancy, you will have a good time.

My first child's first trip to Disney was at 6 months, my second childs first trip was at 3 months and my last child's was at 6 weeks and then again at four months. All times were great and I would do any of them again in a hearbeat. It is a plus that you have a BWV studio equipped with refrigerator and microwave.

With an infant, you do need to slow down for feedings and make sure that they get their naps (some sleep in the stroller, some don't). At 2-3 months, your child will probably be fine sleeping in a stroller. In November, it shouldn't be too hot or too cold which is good. Some people use the baby slings (I never have, but I have heard great things about them), so that may help. Each park also has a Baby Center, which is helpful at times.

The only hesitation that I would have is that (I think) this is your first child and first children are usually a huge adjustment even at home more or less on a vacation so early on. Having said that though, based on my experiences, I would plan to go in November and change only if I had to for specific reasons. Whatever you decide.....Goodluck.

Congratulations! I have three kids (3yrs, 19 mos and 1 mos) and I am the Disney addict in our house, though my oldest DD is catching it! I went to Disney with my oldest when she was about 6 mos. The following year we went and I was 6 mos pregnant with DD2 and we are going next month with DD3 who will be 2mos. As far as the being pregnant at Disney, I think it all depends on your pregnancy. I couldn't have gone with this last pregnancy because I was placed on bedrest at 24 weeks, but I think if you plan on resting periodically you will probably be alright. Disney with our first DD was great. She was still sleeping lots and was little enough to carry her in the Baby Bjorn. We could go out to eat late and she would sleep in her carseat. Oh the days!!! Take advantage of the baby swap for the rides and maybe take some more rests. The child care centers are great. They were air-conditioned and they had water and rocking chairs. It was a welcomed break in the day! Travelling with a baby is more difficult, but can still be lots of fun for you. Enjoy it now though! It gets harder before it gets easier!
