Just got back yesterday from our first trip "home" to OKW! All I can say is.. we are completely happy and excited about our decision to invest in DVC, we were thrilled with everything about OKW and DVC. We had a one bedroom
(#2526) and it was HUGE! We loved the OKW pool and slide. Transportation was a little bit of a pain (had to get up extra early to make our deadlines). Wife was very happy to be able to wash and dry as needed in the room. We saved some money by eating a few meals in the room. It was just a great experience, and we are already looking forward to checking out AKL in May for our first summer vacation, and thanks to DVC, our room is taken care of already! Not sure if we could have had a better experience for our first time with DVC, completely happy

Any questions, fire away!!!

So glad to hear about your wonderful experience at OKW and hope that you love AKV too. Just be prepared for a smaller room. Only OKW has the really large rooms. Each resort has its special features and trying them all is part of the fun of DVC. And you have YEARS to check it all out!

Glad you had a great time for your first trip home. :thumbsup2 We are hoping to stay at OKW for part of our trip in November. Can't wait!

Glad you liked our "home"! We have enjoyed it for 11 years now, and are staying at our new "home" (AKV) in a couple of weeks.

Yes, we are bracing ourselves for the smaller studio room, we talked about it while at OKW. Yes, we have plans to tour each resort, as a matter of fact, we are already planning on visiting our home resort (SSR) next Feb, and then Boardwalk next summer! :woohoo:

You will absolutely :lovestruc it!!! Our only regret is that even though we were there all week, we didn't really take the time to check out all that OKW has to offer. We had a fantastic time in the pool, but that's about it. On our next visit we have promised to take at least one day to just relax and enjoy the resort.

Thanks! We can't wait to check out AKV ourselves in a few months, make sure you let us know how it is!

That's great you had such a wonderful trip! :thumbsup2 We're checking into OKW in exactly 2 weeks. We've never stayed there before and also will have a 1 bedroom. Did you or your family members find the sofa bed comfortable? Did you hear any noise from people walking up and down the stairs in your building?

So nice to hear a great trip report! Glad you had a fun time on your visit home!

Glad to hear new owners indicating that they loved their stay. We first bought into OKW in 2000 and just recently added on at AKV. We have not stayed at the AKV, but have stayed many times at the AKL standard rooms. We are anxious as well for our first AKV stay the first week of June. (May 31 through June 7).:cool1:

It's so true, that the more we go, the more we think about a relaxing vacation, but for us, it's also true, that each vacation just doesn't seem long enough to do all of the relaxing we dream about!:rotfl:

We too, have had wonderful OKW vacations, and I'm glad to hear about yours!

41 days till my first stay at OKW

Glad you had a good trip and thanks for the report!

The kids slept like babies on the sofabed, no complaints. Perhaps this was because we put in "full" days at the parks ;) but they all slept just fine, no issues at all. As far as noise, I overheard one of the transportation busses one time as I was dozing off, but other than that I found OKW to be relatively quiet, and very charming :cloud9:
I'm sure you'll find the same. Two weeks will go by soo fast, good luck to you on your trip, I'm sure you're going to have a great time!

In terms of your transportation comments, how much time should we plan for transp. to and from the parks? Was it feasible for you to travel back and forth for breaks?

Thanks for any info!

We stayed at okw for the first time last nov. We LOVED it so much. We own and normally stay at vwl (love, love, love it) but I look forward to staying at okw again. We found taking the bus to mk was easier than driving, we may even forgo the rental car next time.

DH and I think a retirement home the size of a 2 bedroom would be perfect.

We will just be leaving AKV as you are checking in! We are taking our first Summer Vacation as a family in a long time. We will leave from school on Friday, May 23rd and drive halfway the first night (approx 5 hours), and spend the first Saturday at the "Nick Hotel" (my kids are so excited). Then check in to the AKV on the Sunday and stay for the entire week! We'll keep the light on for ya ;)

Hey Chris! We really only had one real issue with transportation, one morning we were "stuck" at epcot for nearly 45 mins before a bus finally came. We were disappointed, but the rest of the time, transportation was not really an issue. The only thing was we had to get up a bit earlier to make rope drops (at OKW there are 5 scheduled bus stops within the resort before you actually head to the park), but once we figured that out, it was fine.

It would be very easy to plan for breaks, average wait time for busses was approx. 15 - 20 mins tops, except for the one time in epcot. One of our days we did exactly that- we arrived for rope drop, went back to the room for a break, and then visited a different park.

Hope I answered your question :confused3

We checked out VWL this trip on our way to Wispering Canyons, and we really liked it. I promised the kids that one day we'll stay there. The great thing about DVC is that we can stay there
