Pre-trip report: August 24, 2006, 2:00am
As I write this, there are half-packed bags all over and the birthday brownies I almost forgot to bake are in the oven. Meanwhile, Phil is running between his bed and the bathroom, vomitting! In about 4hrs, I am supposed to wake up to get ready to leave for Disney! However, as you can see, we are running a little behind! Here are the players:
Me, Colleen, 22: I went to WDW twice as a child and I have been hoping to go back ever since! I love all Disney movies and still get just as excited about the little things in life as I did as a child. This is my first major vacation as an adult and I have been obsessively planning every little detail because I want everything to be perfect!
DBF, Phil: He has never been to Disney! His family actually went without him 2 years ago because he was afraid to fly (we are taking a train). He is very very nervous, since he thinks he hates rides and doesnt quite get the concept of the Disney themed ride as opposed to the rollercoasters etc found at other theme parks. Plus, he had gatric bypass surgery last year and has lost over 200 lbs, so with his new smaller self I think he will have a great time. Also, he is a part-time photographer (nature, weddings, portraits), so there will be lots of things for him to photograph! His birthday is actually today, August 24, our departure day!
When we first made reservations, we were going to stay for six nights, but after free dining came up, we changed our ressie to 9 nights at Pop century. We are taking the Amtrack train from NJ to Kissimmee and back (23 hrs long each way!).
Unfortunatey, we are getting off to a rocky start. I was in the hospital for a week at the begginning of August, initially diagnosed with a rare disease, but as it turns out I had a toothpick lodged in my colon (no clue how it got there) and I was septic! So, I was pretty much unable to do anything for the past few weeks, and I am just now starting to reintroduce tough-to-digest foods like meat, dairy, veggies, whole grains, etc (i had been living on bananas, peaches, saltines, chicken noodle soup, apple juice, and vanilla sandwich cookies), so hopefully i can still make use of the free dining!
Phil is also having some stomach problems tonight: he got so worked up over fears of missing the train that he didn't eat all day, and when he finally did eat he ate to fast and the food got stuck in the opening to his stomach (an unfortunate side effect of weight loss surgery) so he is a wreck right now!
Anyway, the brownies are almost done and I need to get at least a few hours of sleep tonight (although I doubt thats gonna happen) so I will be sure to update you all when we get back!
