I will make this short and sweet! Background info- Wife and I are 38 and our 18 year old didn't want to come with us. Our first solo trip Ever!!
First time visiting Disneyland and actually our first trip to California. We've been to Disneyworld 10 times since 2008 and I have always been the one who plans everything out. DL was pretty easy to plan for.
We arrived at SNA and took an Uber ($35) to the Tropicanna on South harbor. Midwilshuttle wanted $90 so we passed. Loved the location since we were a 7 minute walk from the park to our door. Loved being able to take breaks and it not feel like an adventure to get back to the room.
The first day at the park I was completely underwhelmed by the castle and some of the attractions. Matterhorn was the worst ride I've ever been on. I don't see why anyone would want to ride something that throws you around. Nothing about that ride was smooth. Once I took a couple laps around the park I started to get settled in and more comfortable but man It was HOT. I live in TN and it felt exactly the same. We ate at the Plaza Inn since we had the Electrical parade package and I thought the Chicken was really good. All week I thought the food was pretty good. We ate the Monte Cristo at New Orleans Cafe, Skewers at Bengals BBQ, Beignets, World of Color Dessert party, Hungry Bear Fantasmic package, In-n-Out (Hollywood day trip), Mimis on South Harbor, The Pizza Press on south harbor, Roscoes Chicken and waffles. No complaints about any of those places.
Back to the parks. Disneyland grew on me throughout the week. I love the park at night much more than the daytime. Haunted Mansion is better at WDW so that was a letdown since it's one of my favorite rides, but the Hatbox ghost is awesome to see in person. After riding GOTG cosmic rewind last month, I have no reason to ride Space Mountain or hyperspace mountain ever again. Pizza planet was cool to see in person, WDW needs more of that in HS. Galaxys edge looked great but nothing too different. Indiana Jones was just OK. I am a huge fan of that franchise, and we only rode it once since it broke down every hour. Jungle Cruise was awesome as usual. All in all I liked the size of DL and the rides (Matterhorn gets a big thumbs down). The park just comes to life at night. Especially the castle and the haunted mansion.
California Adventure was awesome!!!!! Cars land is a beauty and Avengers campus was fun but it's lacking another ride. Pym test kitchen had the chewiest chicken ever lol. GOTG was way more intense than Tower at HS. Web slingers is like Toy Story midway mania but you're using your hands instead of a knob/string. Radiator Springs Racers was the best ride imo. That whole land is so Immersive and once again it just comes to life at night. World of Color was so much fun and just beautiful. I liked WOC more than Fantasmic.
All in all the trip was a success, and we would go back in a heartbeat. My heart is still with WDW since I still feel like I'm in the bubble. I did enjoy walking from CA when it closed, w hopped to DL and when that closed, we went to World of Disney for 30-45 minutes. I love Disneyland and WDW and will forever be grateful to have had the luxury to visit both parks. Last but not least......In-N-Out is legit!!!
