This trip was just my sister, Christine, and myself. We were dressed identical with the words, "Got Ghosts?" on our shirts in support of the Whaley House. We first arrived at 2 p.m. I dropped off my Great Mouse Detective Halloween picture at City Hall with hopes it would bring some cheer to the hard-working Cast Members.
Next we went to pick up a Space Mountain Fast Pass. It was down, could not get one. We went on Star Tours instead with somewhat of a short wait. 10 minutes. Afterward, we went on the Matterhorn Bobsleds and rode on the Fantasyland side. Haven't rode that in a while, always a fun romp.
We then made our way over to Hungry Bear stopping first to get a Fast Pass for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to return at 3:25-4:25.
We ate lunch at Hungry Bear. I ordered a cheeseburger with onion rings (they're all right, not the greatest) and a French Vanilla iced coffee (those are good, but try to get it with no ice, it'll water it down!) and Christine got a turkey club sandwich with apple slices and water. I stole her bacon since she didn't want it and a slice of tomato from her sandwich. The cheeseburger is quite plain and dry-tasting. You've got to add lots of mayo (or whatever condiment) to soften it, and I was glad Christine let me have a slice of her tomato and bacon for more flavor.
After 3:25, we got the next available Fast Pass for Haunted Mansion between 4:20-5:20. Jumped on POTC before going back to BTMRR. Didn't even need the Fast Pass for BTMRR, we breezed right through, in fact, both sides of the line were empty. They let us keep our Fast Pass ticket.
We returned to Haunted Mansion and got entertained by the Fast Pass ticket collector named Glen. He was both dead-pan faced and funny. He saw our shirts for "Got Ghosts?" and replied, "Mm, hmm, I sure do got them!" I had to get my picture with him. He was a very amusing CM.
While walking in the entrance, we noticed a familiar person sitting in a wheelchair off to the side. It was Ray Bradbury with his family!
I recognized him after I saw him during the San Diego Comic Con. We got to see him again in the gallery room when they got the wheelchair access. His daughter almost let us get a photo with him, but he was too overwhelmed to pose for pictures. I didn't feel right when he wasn't up to it, so we just shook his hand. It was cool to think we were riding a famous spooky ride with a famous horror writer at the same time!
We never saw him again after he and his family got off the ride. Oh, well. We moved on over to get a Fast Pass for Indiana Jones for 6:15-7:15. We then slipped into the Tiki Room to relax for a bit. After that, we walked all the way into Fantasyland through the drawbridge to ride Mr. Toad and then continued onward to Toontown to ride Roger Rabbit Cartoon Spin. The line got bottled up near the DIP machinery, not too bad.
Circled out and got on the DLRR to head back to New Orleans Square to get to Indiana Jones. When paused at the Main Street station, I looked over from the bridge and noticed a large number of people entering the main gates and got a sudden dread. DCA had just closed at 6 p.m. for the Trick or Treat party and that meant everyone would pile in to DL! Uh, oh. I knew what that meant!
We continued to New Orleans Square and got off to get over to Indiana Jones. We got as far as the top landing to the last two staircases before boarding the ride when all of a sudden the lights turned on brightly and the voice over of Sala paused. Everyone was then escorted out due to an alarm going off and causing them to evacuate the ride. We never got to ride it and kept checking back until the end of the evening. It did open much later, but we missed it. We also lost our Fast Passes. We just weren't meant to ride it that day.
After leaving, we went to buy a bottled water and grapes at the fruit/drink stand near the Jungle Cruise. We took it over near that stand that lists the attractions and their wait times and sat on a bench. I munched on the grapes and stared at the new number of crowds, shaking my head and thinking, "Wow, it's really gotten packed since DCA closed!"
We eventually got up and slowly walked over to Space Mountain to see if it had ever opened. Star Tours had a 25-minute wait (eesh!) and Space Mountain was open with a 60-minute wait and no more Fast Passes. No thanks. We moved on to the Autopia instead and that had a bit of a long wait too even though it only said 25 minutes. Felt longer in line.
Next, by 8:30, we walked past Sleeping Beauty Castle (the streets were packed by then for the 9:25 fireworks) and continued on to slip into Frontierland. I took a photo of the Halloween tree. We snagged another Fast Pass for BTMRR to return at 10:20-11:20. We then walked over to see how Haunted Mansion looked. Incredibly packed, a 45-minute wait.
I was hungry and went over to the French Market to get food. We each got a Chowder Bowl, Christine got salad with hers while I asked for grilled vegetables. They weren't bitter this time, more of a strong herb flavor, so I ate them all. We split a raspberry cheesecake. The fireworks began and we got trapped in the New Orleans Square area.
I then got an idea, or thought it might work.
We walked through the dark trail near Big Thunder Ranch to make our way to Fantasyland to see if we could get to Peter Pan after the fireworks ended. Well, so did several hundred other people! We arrived just as the fireworks ended and saw a HUGE line to wait for both Peter Pan and Mr. Toad! It went all the way down near the Tea Cups. Hmm, that's not a bad idea. We skipped that long line and got on the Tea Cups instead. Wheeee! I like to spin that sucker, poor Christine had to close her eyes and just go with it.
Alice was closed for the time being, so we continued on toward Tomorrowland around the Matterhorn to see how its line looked. Incredibly huge, it wrapped itself near the view of the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. We skipped the Matterhorn and got back over to Tomorrowland to see Space Mountain at a 75-minute wait. Oh, my Lord!
We went back near the Matterhorn, but cut through that walkway that takes you to Tinker Bell's meet and greet area.
We continued on to the Hub to snap photos of the Jack O' Lanterns surrounding the Partners statue and take a rest. We then slipped through the Once Upon a Time side entrance when I wanted to look for a book (with no luck, of course), and then we quickly left to head back over to BTMRR for our 10:20 Fast Pass return. This time the Pass was greatly needed. The Stand-By line was incredibly packed and we breezed through the Fast Pass line and got on the ride much quicker. BTMRR is so much fun at night, and so cool-looking too!

Next, us crazy people walked back over to New Orleans Square, still saw the line for Haunted Mansion was huge, and swung backwards to hop on POTC with 'the last hurrah' crowd. It went quickly. We had a guy sitting alone in the front seat of our boat that was dressed like a pirate and boy, he sure played the part. He turned around to all of us and said in a pirate's voice, "Now, we're all gonna be shovin' off soon, so keep your hands and feet inside the boat yeh hear?" Christine bellowed, "Aye, aye, Cap'n!" He looked to her and said, "Good!" I whispered to Christine, "Meet Jack's brother, Mack!" This made some people behind our seat laugh.
After Pirates, we had a choice to either check out Indiana Jones or ride Haunted Mansion one more time. We chose Haunted Mansion and got in that hideously-long line. Did I mention we were crazy?
Our Captain Mack also got in the Haunted Mansion line, standing in front of us the whole time.
irate: He didn't talk to us, but that's fine. No need to.
It was midnight by the time we got out of there and everything was starting to close down. We had to make our way to the exit and chose the path past Indiana Jones. We saw people leaving the exit from it, and that told us it did reopen, but who knows when.
We made our way over to Main Street and out the main gate where everyone had the same thing on their mind, the trams. Here's a funny thing. We were planning on taking that walking trail back to the parking structure instead of waiting for the tram. However, there is a second waiting zone further down that people don't get to fast enough. We saw this opportunity and got in a spot to board immediately on the next available tram. Oh, I was so glad we didn't have to wait at all. What a good idea!
It was then off to get gas and off for home, coming through the front door at 2 a.m.
And that's my Halloween trip report!
