This is kind of a 'chicken orthe egg' question.

We are hoping to add to our family within the next year. However, I have become all too aware that it's not always an easy task.

If we are not able to have a baby as we hope we would like to try a Disney cruise next year (either February or April). Since we'll need to travel on a school vacation week we need to plan as early as possible.

I'm just curious how others handle this situation. Do you plan your trip and then cancel if need be or do you wait until you get within the "safe window" of not being too pregnant by trip time and book then?

I know it's a personal decision, but I would love insight from how others have handled it.

Find out what the cancel policy is for DCL (or whatever cruise line you're taking) BEFORE you reserve. I know that it is good to book a cruise pretty far out or you can end up with trading price for room location (read: not the best location). If you can cancel with little or no fee then you don't have much to lose and can get the level/room you want instead of waiting and taking the leftovers. Remember, if you're traveling when school is out so are a bunch of other people too so they're planning ahead as well.

It's not too far of a window for you really. August is the outside window for an April cruise (you'd be about 8 months), so if you're not pregnant by then you can determine to wait a few months and then start trying again in Oct/Nov and you won't be too far along.

Hope this helps a tiny bit.

Good luck with your family planning! pixiedust:

I say check out the cancellations policy and if there's not much to lose financially then don't hold off on booking things for fear you "might" be pregnant at the time you're due to do whatever.

Our first child was an extremely unexpected surprise (we were in high school still- i sat my exams heavily pregnant with her and still finished top of my class- quite an achievement!) and so we assumed our 2nd would be a case of come off birth control and bang, #2 baby would be due 9 months after that- 10 or 11 at the most, in reality #2 baby took over 4 years to conceive and during that time we discovered we had secondary infertility, had to undergo a myriad of testing, medications, blood work and eventually ovarian surgery. So we had him, during that time we'd delayed our wedding constantly because I didn't want to be a pregnant bride- when we eventually did marry we conceived him 6 weeks later. He was our miracle baby, our one in a million and then we conceived again naturally when he was just 11 weeks old- our 2nd and 3rd children are less than a year apart. We then intentionally decided on a 4th and although we were looking at average conception time (within 3 months of starting trying with charting) we lost that baby, conceived again and had a missed miscarriage diagnosed as 12 week scan, then a 3rd m/c (again and early term one) shortly after and then it took us over 12 months from the 3rd m/c to conceive our 4th child. If i'd have put off life to wait just incase i conceive or incase a pregnancy made it passed 12 weeks I'd not have done a great deal these last 8 or 9 years!

So i say check out the cancellation policies and go for it as long as you wouldn't lose too much money.

WE spent 9 years trying to get pregnant, then adopted. (Then got pregnant twice.)

Don't plan your life around anticipated pregnancies. Handle them as they come up.

HAve a wonderful trip, and best wishes on the family!!

I agree, you can't plan your life around anticipated pregnancies. #1, I got pregnant the first month. He was a handful and we waited 7 years to try again. I was older and thought it would take longer than the first month, but once again I was pregnant the first month. #3 was a total surprise to both me and my doctor.
