Trip Planning During Gay Days.

" Lastly, not to attack anyone, but a poster said their friends trip was ruined by Gay Days, and I just wanted to say that no one can ruin a vacation or even a day in your life. If your day is ruined it is because YOU ruined it for yourself. If you let something as silly as people showing affection for each other ruin your day it's a self created problem that the person needs to deal with. After all, we really do need more kindness, love, and understanding in this world. Enough with the pre-judging. If everyone was kind and stopped pointing fingers at others for what they see as horrible decisions than perhaps things like war would be gone entirely. Letting your kids go to Gay Days might not prevent war in the future, but fostering understanding of others with lifestyles different from your own is certainly a start. "

Excellent and well said! Anyone want to help print copies of this post for distribution to the general populace? Sadly, someone needs to remind us 'huddles masses' of the need in our lives for basic compassion and tolerance of others.

I cannot stand over-the-top PDA. It's rude, disgusing, and trashy.

Go to any mall in America and you'll see lots of it. That being said, I have never seen this type of behavior from a gay couple. I'm sure it happens, but 100% of the couples that I've seen do this have been hetero.

I'm not talking about holding hands, or a peck. I'm talking about feeling like some cheesy 70's "flick" music should start playing.

We're going during GD this year, and I'll be very surprised (and disgusted) if we see anything over-the-top.

The advice I was given was to avoid MK on Saturday (is there an echo in here?) but that the Gay Day for the other parks won't affect the crowds.

This will be flamed, even though it means no harm whatsoever, but I personally am very surprised Disney promotes Gay Day. I mean, there's nothing wrong in the least with it and it doesn't bother me, but Disney is a family place. Disney doesn't promote Jewish Day, or Muslim Day. Bad analogies I know, but the idea of creating seperate days for people based on their sexual preference just doesn't seem right to me.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't *think* Disney promotes it. I think it's all independantly organized.

I don't mean to offend anybody, and I'm TRULY sorry if I have, but I really don't like the idea of pointing people out like that. I shouldn't have a problem, since they clearly don't, but it just irks me a bit.

Disney doesn't promote it. Gay Days happens all over Orlando including Universal. It is just a group of people that get together once a year to celebrate life. Like any group having a "convention" in Orlando, they include Disney parks in thier schedule of events.

We were there during Gay Days last year. The MK was busy on Saturday, but the crowd level was typical of a weekend day in the summer. There were a lot of people wearing red shirts. There were a few people dressed in drag. One group had personalized shirts that had a play on words, such as "Fairy Poppins." However, most of the people at MK were simply there to have a good time with their families. We personally did not witness any PDA. My children were all under 6, and they did not notice anything out of the ordinary. We are going back to DW during the first week of June again this year. Due to the crowds, we will avoid the official Gay Days parks on those particular days. princess:

P.S. I'm in the pool. I say 3 days! :flower:

Anything more than hand holding or a little hug and kiss is inappropriate for anyone!!! Wait til you get back to the hotel room for anything else

YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Jovidian your not going to get flamed! First you were not derrogatory at all, you simply made a good point because for Disney to specifically promote something for a certain group, it would have to place more emphasis on people being different rather than people being united. Disney seeks to unite people, which is simply why it promotes activities for everyone, not specific genders, sexualities, races, nationalities, etc. The entire World Showcase shows Disneys commitment to embracing other cultures for what they are and teaches kids and adults alike to appreciate them for the beauty in them. It would in a way, be going against the policy by promoting a particular day for one group. As other posters have said Gay Days is externally organized each year but Disney is a favorite spot. So Disney simply embraces the fact that Gay Days loves Disney! And frankly who can blame them! Thats a huge honor for any business to be picked as THE place to be for a huge worldwide gathering! :cool1:  :rotfl2:

We've been during Gay Days before and haven't noticed any real difference. We always avoided the main park of the day (for crowds) and never had any problems.

I don't like to watch gross PDAs from anyone, straight or gay, but have never seen anything like that during Gay Days either.

Enjoy your trip! :sunny:

Aw thanks Jezaduck24! That was well put yourself, we all do need to remember basic compassion in our lives. Sadly we often are so busy we forget about the importance of little things like that, and how a simple smile and hello can truly brighten someone's day simply because someone noticed and acknowldeged them. :wizard: :teeth:

We were at gay days noticed no major difference. We had dd8 ds 6 and explained it to them. They didn't even notice what was going on they were more worried about the next ride. I would avoid parks during major events just to avoid the crowds. One thing I will say is avoid the hotels in downtown disney area. We stayed at doubletree and the party at some of the hotels were quite loud and late.

Very well said. It's amazing how many people on these boards ruin their own vacations and then want to blame it on someone else.

I haven't been during Gay Days at WDW, but have been during Gay Day at DL. I saw nothing out of the ordinary, and the gay people we ended up in line with at various rides were some of the nicest and most respectful people I've met at Disney. Towards the end of the day, after Believe, I saw a group of about ten men in red shirts standing in a circle at the top of Main Street, holding hands and saying a prayer. Some jerk walking by with his family, pushed a young boy (I guess it was his DS) away from the group and said " Don't get too close to them, you don't know what you might catch". To me, that was more disgusting than any PDA I might have witnessed.

Hearing about that man is simply so sad... People wonder how so many countries wind up at war with each other... What do they expect when we cannot even handle our own individual behavior in public?

The worst kind of PDA: Hatred, Prejudice, and Hostility of any sort.

A warning: Do not wear the color RED that is what they try to wear to recognize eachother.

I am dying to find out what would happen if I wore red? Would I get kidnapped, brainwashed, given a beauty makeover, become more tolerant, finally have a nice manicure, learn how to dance, grow a mustache, <insert gay stereotype here>, get assaulted on the monorail, drink tea with my pinkie finger all twisted up, join a biker gang just for the nice leather outfits, listen to C&C Music Factory, etc. The mind wheels at the possibilities.

No disrespect meant I just had to laugh at the seriousness of your "warning". Now I want to do it just to see what will happen.

The wearing of red warning is actually funny. I remember a post where a family decided to wear red to identify each other and it happend to be GD at MK. Oops! They thought it was quite funny. I think you took the "warning" wrong. It is along the same lines as DISers wearing lime green to recognize each other. I'm sure that the folks at Gay Day don't think that everyone who wears red is gay.

My gay friend who lives in Tampa and goes to a lot of WDW gay days says the real things to avoid are the "official hotels" (there is one for the ladies and one for the gentlemen), but those are probably booked solid anyway, and some of the night spots that families wouldn't be hitting anyway.

Can you please post which resorts are the "official hotels"?

I think you took the "warning" wrong.

Oh I don't know about that. The warning was obviously there to protect from some horrible fate. I was trying to imagine what it could be. Imagine on a gay board a post like this.

Guys, just wanted to give a warning here, do not wear lime green, I mean it clashes with everything, but not only that, those people wear it to identify themselves, you know, the obsessive compulsive planners....

LOL...you know us too well!! We of the lime green will rule the World of Disney! See, we've even infiltrated this group ----> :grouphug:

As for the pool---- I'll wager three Mickey Bars that it's locked by 11:59pm on April Fool's Day.

As for me and my house---- well, there are certain weeks during the year when I would NEVER consider going to WDW for a number if reasons (I'll never tell! <-- well, maybe later). I would just like to think that all potential guests would be aware of things happening in the parks (festivals, climate, special events, etc.) and then they can decide if that is a good time to visit for them and their family. BTW, those guests who choose not to go at certain times of year don't need lectures about how they should be "open minded" about visiting -for example -when the weather is really hot, Christmas decorations are up, or HCOE is going on. The way I figure, the weeks I would NEVER go to WDW means less crowds for those of you who do choose to go during those certain weeks.
