Hi there:
I have never taken out trip insurance on any prior trip, but I booked the 4 night for next June and am thinking that I should. It will be our 1st cruise. My TA suggested using a company other than Disney to get a better price. Looking for names of who you have used in the past. Also did you just insure the cruise portion or did you cover the air fare too? I'm using DVC points for the land part ahead of time and am aware of the cancellation policies with points so I'm okay with that part.

Thanks for sharing---

My family and I have used Travel Guard quite a few times (we can insure our points from DVC). We did have to use it twice!

1 - my husband cut his hand BADLY and needed stitches.

2 - my daughter got a UTI and we had to visit the ship's doctor (very expensive).

I would use them again in a heartbeat - no hassle and a very quick turn around on reimbursement.

My advice is to get the insurance if you have any reason at all that you may need it. I went to insuremytrip.com and got the Travelex policy. The day before we were suppose to leave, my father passed away. Thank goodness I had insurance. This just happened May 27th. I have asked for my claim forms, but I haven't received them yet. Disney let us transfer our reservations to a later date, but they charge $85.00/person to do so. We were not flying, but I think that was included. They ask for the total cost of the trip.

It includes all expenses that you incure from the time you leave your home to the time you return. You will need to give them a total. We have used Access America, which is who DCL uses but you can get a much better rate on your own. Ask them for the AAA family plan rate. You will need to call them to get this since it wont give you the correct quote on the site. You do NOT need to have AAA to get this & if someone there says you do, hang up & call back. I talked to a sup who told me the first person I talked to was very wrong...and they wouldn't put a sup on the phone.

We got our policy at insuremytrip.com. Also went with a travelex plan. You can compare as many plans as you want on the website to find the one at the price and coverage level you feel you need.
