We booked our 2nd DC through DU. We did not get trip insurance yet. On our first DC we did have insurance through them.

My question is.........can I get it cheaper? Family of 2 adults, 2 seniors & two children.

Has anyone every traveled w/o insurance and regreted it?

My mom's suitcase was ruined by the baggage handlers on DC last year and the insurance paid for it, but does that justify paying so much money just for a suitcase?

Thanks :wave2:

I don't know if this will be of much help. I have never purchased travel insurance (until now--for our up comming trip) but our TA recomended using a diff company other than the DCL insurance program. She said it was a much cheeper program and had better coverage. She did price both for us and it was about 1/2 as much. The company is called Travel Guard International "Protect Assist" their ph # is 1-800-549-9037 and web site www.TravelGuard.com

But like I said I have never purchase any in the past nor have I used any. We did it this time because we are going on the trip with the help of The Wishing Star Foundation. (It part of my daughters wish trip) We felt that with the $$$ of everything involved with the trip and her medical equiptment going along also we better get the travel insurance.

Hope this helped.

I strongly recommend travel insurance to all my clients. I also recommend Travelguard - very easy company to get along with, good coverage, good price.

I have had several instances of clients having to use their insurance. One was a cruise that was cancelled partway through because of Norwalk - she arrived back at port several days before her flight was supposed to leave, airline would not change flight. Insurance paid for return flight right away. I've had several clients with medical emergencies (ruptured cyst on a kidney, hemorrhaging, etc, heart attack, kidney failure) that were completely unforseen and travel insurance covered all the costs.

I also have a client that booked (on her own) a month-long trip and didn't get any kind of travel insurance - a week into her trip her mother died. Last-minute return airfare was several thousand dollars, which she couldn't afford. I believe she ended up missing her mother's funeral.

I personally don't take any kind of a trip without travel insurance.

GET THE INSURANCE....

You can indeed find better insurance for MUCH cheaper... I think one good site is insuremytrip.com. I looked there, and then we got coverage thru AccessAmerica. I think that is the same company that DCL uses, for a lot less $$$. I think we paid about $80.00 for the three of us.

We have only cruised once, and with luck did not need our insurance... But, my in-laws really wished they had insurance on a prior cruise... After that experience, they decided to get the coverage for their last cruise... And they actually could have used the insurance!! (My MIL was injured and hospitalized in FL right before boarding, but decided not bail out on the others they were cruising with.... otherwise they would have cancelled and gotten all of their money back!!!) Both times, they could have been reimbursed for the full cost of their trip if need be!!!

Bottom line is, you never know what might happen! You may well be glad that you found some cheaper insurance and have the coverage if needed.

I also used access america (which BTW is the same company as disney uses) with their kids are free plan - the cost was so low (I'm a single mom with three kids) that it seemed silly not too
