Trip Insurance

It covers what ever you purchased through ABD including flights, pre, and post stays.

That seems odd, given that you can add as many as 4 extra days to your ABD. It would seem that the rate should increase.

Also gives me something to consider, if I decide to add anything on my own, what my coverage would be, since I've bought the plan through Disney.

Anything you add on your own is not covered by the ABD travel insurance. It only covers what you book through ABD and for my past two trips the price increased slightly as I added pre stays and airfare. I have not added these yet for our Greece trip as they were not yet available when I booked the trip. I am calling tomorrow to see if I can add them yet.

I got the call today that pre and post trip nights are now ready for booking (this was for the Greece trip). What date are you going? (We are June 22)

Do most of you folks include insurance with ABD or do you get your own?

I've used insuremytrip.com several times.
After you enter all your trip information, they provide a listing of many different packages and companies along with the prices.
You can then review them all and even compare the coverages side by side.
I always thought that getting trip insurance was useless... Until I read some of the horror stories on these boards about ruined/canceled vacations.
IMHO-worth every penny

I also used insuremytrip for my past ABD. This time, I am purchasing the insurance through ABD, just easier for me. On our last trip, the ABD trip insurance didn't include the pre-existing condition waiver (unless you paid for your entire trip within 14 days). Now, ABD let's you pay for the entire *insurance* within 14 days, thus you get the pre-existing condition waiver.

I am a little concerned about if I want to do something that is not part of ABD , then it won't be covered, but I cannot plan for extra stays (other than ABD pre-and posts) within 14 days. So, I have the insurance now, with the waiver, and if I want to add something that is non-ABD, then I will look into what kind of coverage my credit card carries, or will look into purchasing a separate policy.

After our experience in Peru (passports stolen on the day we were to fly home), I can't say enough about having trip insurance. We had done it through AAA when we booked with them--and now that we are doing Costco, we get the ABD insurance early on. I have to say it was nice not only dealing with the Access America folks re the claim (the provider for the ABD insurance we obtained), but having ABD reps and the Disney-retained local tour reps (LimaTours) assisting us made it all pretty easy to get through.

We just bought the cheapest package policy offered at insuremytrip, and it cost about half of the ABD insurance, for coverage that was comparable in almost every respect (except that ABD insurance has much better coverage for luggage).

I can understand the hassle issue, but the way I see it there is at least a 99% chance that I won't use the insurance at all, and at those odds I'd rather have an extra $400 in my pocket and worry about a claim if and when the need arises.

I compared the ABD prices vs. doing the trip insurance on my own, an am satisfied with the level of my coverage. I also like the fact that ABD will help me file my claim in the event of a loss.

You really need to compare it on a trip by trip basis. Usually ABD's insurance has come out way higher than insuremytrip.com. This year, however, ABD's coverage for our Knights & lights trip was SIGNIFICANTLY lower than anything I priced myself. And it covered my flights, as long as I was flying from home to London and back from CDG to home (even though I'd arranged my own predays). And it now includes a pre-existing condition waiver also, if you purchase it within 14 days.

Sayhello
