Trip Insurance

Depends on if you want pre-existing conditions covered. If you do, you need to do it within so many days of deposit. If that is not an issue, wait until after you need to make your final payment. That way if you cancel you won't be out the cost of the insurance.

Thanks! I don't have pre-existing conditions, so I'll just wait till the end of the month.

Don't wait too long. You can purchase up until the day before you leave, but the price did go up the longer I waited. It went from $90 to $110 over the course of the 3 months since I purchased within a week or two before sailing.

In addition, there are many companies that will refund your purchase price (minus a small fee) if you cancel your trip and don't have to use the insurance (IE cancel before the penalty date).

In addition (again) to insuremytrip.com look at squaremouth.com, there were more options on that site.

Many insurances will allow you to change your dates one time and still cover the trip.

In addition, the concept of pre-existing conditions applies to an serious illness or death in a relative as well as to you. For instance, if the policy would cover canceling your trip because your MIL was ill or died, the company will look at whether she had the illness before you purchased the coverage.

Thanks! I was thinking I'll book it once I book the airfare, but before the 45-day mark.

Yes, I have realized this after doing some more research. I won't have a pre-existing coverage this time around (in fact, I don't think I've ever purchased it) but next time I will be a bit wiser, and just buy the insurance within a week of putting a deposit on the cruise. Thanks for the info!
