I was wondering what happens if you book a pkg with NON REFUNDABLE trip insurance and you are forced to rebook to get a discount (like if free dining comes out, or a code magically appears on your name). If I book the pkg without the trip insurance, can I add it later, before the balance is paid in full?

I am looking at Sept, and I really want the insurance in case of weather problems, but I wouldn't want to be out that $$ if I made a change.

My understanding is that if you cancel 45 Days out, all of your money is refunded to you. I inquired about the cancelation policy, if, I denied the insurance. From what I remember, the most you lose is $200. It's broken down into various amounts, like if you cancel 5-45 Days, 1-5 Days, etc.

You have 14 Days from the time you make your reservation to add trip insurance.

I thought you could add it at anytime prior to the 45 days, when it had to be paid in full. If you didn't put it on when you first made the reservation.

Also..unless it includes the airfare (which our trip didn't) I didn't see the point since it was per adult and we had three adults in the reservation. The weather situation is very confusing and vague in my opinion. Considering the cancellation policy is really pretty good. I think the most your going to loose if you cancel even at the last minute would be the two hundred dollars. Not the entire trip. If you cancel before the 45 days..there's no charge..44 to 6, I think it's 100.00 and then after 6 days it was 200.

They are really pretty understanding also. I had a family emergency and wasn't able to go, and they graciously refunded my entire trip..and didn't charge us anything. Now, I'm not saying that would happen to everyone, and maybe I got a very understanding castmember on the line, but it worked out.
I didn't have airline tickets through Disney..directly with the airline, and they gave us a credit for the entire amount..(minus a $25.00 fee per ticket) for an entire year. We eventually just rescheduled and went on the trip within the year.

I hope you' re right about the 45 days. I'm going to call this weekend again, but you know how it is Ask another cast member, get a different answer! I would just take it, but I'm not sure if I should book at (gulp) rack rate, which is what they are offering me so far, and hope for free dining, or book throughAAA and at least get some discount. My fear is that AAA will not call fast enough if free dining comes out. My dates are pretty set, and I don't mind paying for the insurance, but I don't want to lose the insurance money if I decide to switch over to AAA to get a discount, or have to rebook the same pkg to get free dining. :confused3 I know that with AAA you have to book the insurance at the time you book the trip or you can't add it and it is nonrefundable. I think it was $120 for my family of 5 last year.

I was just going through this yesterday, I called Disney and got a quote w/o insurance, because I didn't like the 14 day deal (if you cancel after 14 days with trip insurance added on - your $200 deposit would minus the trip insurance money and that would then be your refund) but she did say I could later add it on.
Then I called AAA, they gave me a better quote than Disney and told me the same thing - I can always add the insurance on at a later date, plus if any codes come out the AAA guy said he would add them on as well (hope he knows what the heck he is talking about - lol).
We are traveling in Oct. and I do want the insurance, but, will add it later.

They deduct the non-refundable insurance from your deposit.I only got credited 66.17 from my original $200 deposit...:sad2:

I always buy my insurance through www.Insuremytrip.com, its much les expensive and you can purchase the components you want.

It may depend on if you switch your travel dates or not too. :confused3
My understanding is when you buy the insurance you are getting it for the dates you are booking your travel.
Then if you would decide later to rebook for different dates, then that insurance would not be of any use since you purchased insurance for the other dates. And I don't think it's Disney being the stickler on the dates. They have to pay the insurance and abide by that company's rules and policies just as we would if buying on our own. (I think of this as similar to the airlines and having to follow their policies, etc upon purchase.)

The insurance is non-refundable.It does not matter if you are just switching your dates, or changing packages. You will be deducted the cost of the insurance from the $200 deposit.I just went thru this with Disney a few weeks ago.I switched the trip by one day and got penalized, because the insurance gives you 14 days from booking to change without penalty. After that your insurance is deducted from the $200. deposit. This is not disneys policy it is the insurance carrier they use.:goodvibes

llb is very correct. insuremytrip is great. I have used them for the last three vacations and if you switch dates they can switch the insurance. There usually is not a charge to change the dates either. The coverage is also better and cheaper than what Disney offers.
