Just paid my final payment and was asked about trip insurance? We did get it on our last cruise, but it was close to 250.00! I know I can get it cheaper online than going through Disney!

Does anyone out there not get this insurance???

It is me, my Dh and dd11, dd9............Don't know what to do

Absolutely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, get some kind of trip insurance.

Unless of course the money that you've spent on your vacation is just a drop in the bucket for you and you wouldn't miss it if you had to cancel your trip suddenly.

When I have clients that tell me they don't need trip insurance because they "know they're going", I tell them this: I have no plans for my house to burn down, but I still have house insurance.

Check out: insuremytrip.com

It's a great website for comparisons.

I bought my trip insurance through Travelex. It is much cheaper than going thru DCL. I am really glad I did as I (or should I say "we"), have had quite alot happen this past week. If this had ever been the week of our cruise we wouldn't have made it! DH crushed his finger Friday, had surgery for it on Tuesday. DD got a very, very bad ear infection & I got poison ivy. BIL had terrible hemorhoids & had to have a colonoscopy. Sooo, even though you don't expect something to happen, sometimes the unforseen will occur. I personally have never traveled without trip insurance, it's just not a gamble I'm willing to take, and believe my, I love to gamble! Kathy :wave2:

I think you can save some money by getting the insurance elsewhere. Access America is the company Disney uses. If you have kids i'd recommend insurance highly.
After my son caught the stomach flu and was quarantined for 48 hours, the trip insurance refunded me our lost cruise time. I was so happy i took the insurance...

We used Travelex - $194 for the four of us. Definitely get it, we almost had to use it.

insuremytrip.com is great for comparing policies, but I had a TERRIBLE customer service experience with them. I was about to purchase from them, but they were so obnoxious to me that I bought it direct from the company (CSA) which only cost me $5 more. OK - it is REALLY hard for me to spend more for something - but there was NO WAY I was giving any money to insuremytrip.com!

Private companies are usually cheaper than Disney, and will cover all aspects of your trip if you booked portions separately (like separate land/sea or air not thru DCL).

There are a couple things to consider. IF your health insurance will cover you out of the country AND will cover an air evacuation if needed, the worst you can be out is the cost of the vacation--depending on your situation, that may or may not be worth insuring.

If your health insurance won't cover an air evacuation (which can run 25K)...you might want to seriously consider insurance.

IUVTOGO, absolutely get trip insurance. I happen to be rather lazy and simply go ahead and book it with Disney when I book my cruise. I know it can be cheaper out side and you can get coverage for seperate items. like we book our air fare seperately. We came with in a hairs breath of using it for out last crusie. My DW was in the hospital with a severe kidney infection. She was released the afternoon before we were to sail. She got the okay to go, but up until that afternoon, we thought we'd have to cancel. That would be a very big chunk of money to loose.

I know it also covers some other stuff, so it is defenitely worth the money, especially when your vacation is an investment of this magnitude.

get insurance but make sure you know what IS and IS NOT covered. a family member (not cruising with us) was diagnosed with cancer after we booked our cruise. at final payment time he was doing well and we fully anticipated no problem with vacation. He ended up needing surgery at cruise time. He is fine now. Altho he wasn't crusing with us, i think it would have been pretty crumby if we said "sorry you're sick but we are going on a cruise" so we cancelled. disney insurance wouldn't cover it because it was "pre-existing." If he was diagnosed AFTER we made final payment it would have been covered. disney let us reschedule for a reasonable fee of $89 pp (as we were traveling cat 3 and cruise more that $5K). I had long conversation with insurance people and they insisted ANY pre-existing condition would not be covered. I am a nurse and clarified issue specifically. a diabetic complication, lupus flare-up, asthma exacerbation, any illness involving a prediagnosed condition - all not covered. There are so many people with chronic illness and this policy seems so unfair. disney couldn't have been nicer but an insurance policy is a separate purchase from a separate company. also have to say dreams travel agent was great and pretty much did all the work in getting things settled. As I read this, it all seems so unbelievable but I guess just a harsh reality of business and profits. Come to think of it, Continental wouldn't budge either and we were charged $100 each to re-ticket for later trip.

I agree to check on what is/is not covered. Some companies do have a very broad definition of pre-existing, and some will be fine with some pre-existing conditions if they've been stable for a specified amount of time.

One agent where I used to work had a client that had to cancel a trip and the insurance company they used wouldn't cover the cost. The woman's daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and although the diagnosis was made after the insurance was purchased they still refused because the girl had been having headaches prior to diagnosis and so felt that symptoms were readily apparent and therefore pre-existing = no coverage.

We were able to get travel insurance with the preexisting condition included. But we had to take the insurance within 7 or 10 (can't remember) days of when we booked. If you wait longer than that, they won't include preexisting conditions. For us it was absolutely necessary to have that included.

I priced insurance through Access America for our family of 5 for our 7 night cruise in November and it was $121.00 for all of us. The kids are free because we are AAA members. I had to call them because the Trip Assist Family policy was no longer listed on their website. HTH

access america was the company that wouldn't cover our cancelled vacation when nephew needed emergency cancer surgery. Rep less than sympathetic and not very nice. thankfully DCL had a bigger heart and alto no refund they did let us reschedule for "a document fee" of less than $100 pp. fyi - disney told us that we could cancel (technically reschedule) up until the day of the cruise for that same document fee. disney also told us that this rescheduling policy is in place for people in similar "circumstances beyond conrol" situations. As i said before, DU agent guided us in this difficult time and pretty much made all arrangements for us.
