Hi,

I have cruised with Disney 2 times before without trip insurance. Me and my family are cruising again at the end of October and I don't feel comfortable cruising without insurance anymore. I was reading that insurance needs to purchased without so many days of our initial deposit for optimal coverage.

My question is being as though I will be purchasing insurance so late, should I stick with Disney or still obtain coverage through an outside source?

I would still obtain coverage through an outside source, as that could cover airfare vs. Disney's that only covers anything purchased through them. The buying it within 2 weeks of initial deposit is only for pre-existing conditions. Both of our cruises we bought/will buy insurance after we've purchased the non-refundable airfare as we are a healthy family.

I seem to recall reading that coverage thru DCL could only be purchased up until you were Paid-in-full. After PIF, it could not be added.

Go ahead and purchase travel insurance. As noted above, it needs to be purchased close to your deposit date to cover additional items. But you can buy it at any time - I think it just gets more expensive the closer you get to your vacation.

You can still get good coverage, the only thing that gets limited is who will offer preexisting condition waivers, almost all of them will only do them before your paid in full date though. But for many preexisting conditions aren't an issue anyway. Always use a reputable comparison site to figure out which fits you best. If you are still unsure, check with your travel agent, they should be able to give you the best answer.

I'm not sure if you can get Disney insurance at this point, as mentioned by PP above. I'm the go-between with our TA, and after passing along insurance costs to extended family, I apparently misinterpreted my dad's single-word, non-committal-sounding response. Months later when he asked me about it, it was too late for Disney insurance, but our TA did have other options for him.
