While all of us hope to not have to use our trip insurance, I figure the test of a good policy/ company, is how they handle a claim. I have used CSA travel protection in the past, but fortunately, I have never had to file a claim. I was reading on another thread about a plan where kids are free through Access America and the prices look reasonable. Can anyone provide feedback, good or bad, on how claims were handled if you had to file (through any insurance company)?

Thanks!!

I can't answer your question, but congrats on the DOUBLE DIGIT DANCE! Maybe this bump:bounce: will help....

Filed a claim with NCL'c ins company. Was a nightmare. When we made our deposit,NCL never posted the money to the ins. co,so company denied it saying I had a preexisting condition when I filed the claim, even though the condition arose after the deposit.
We had to fight them and threaten litigation, and eventually NCL straightened it out.

Since then I've used TRavelsafe and they have been easy to deal with and rates are good. Have not had a claim with them. Since i make the ins payment myself the cruise line cannot mess it up.

Thanks Favorite Auntie! Looks like you are going very soon!!!! I am excitedly doing the double digit dance and will celebrate my making some Konk Koolers!

And thanks for your response awatt.

Several years ago I planned a trip to Hong Kong, got sick and had to delay the trip...The $25 insurance picked up $200 worth of cancellation and re-booking charges...Hooray...Don't leave home without it!:Pinkbounc

I had to use insurance last year when midway through our 7 day cruise, my father passed away. I didn't think of the insurance at the time, and called them about a week later. No problems at all, I just had to provide some information on his illness and death, no pre-existing conditions because we got the insurance when we booked. Received payment in less than a month. They paid for travel home, hotel stay and missed days on the cruise. I won't go on a cruise without it. I figure anything that's prepaid you should get it. I believe ours was through Access America (we bought it through DCL).

We're deciding on taking a trip to Aruba (did the 7 day DVC Eastern 2 years ago & wanted to do somthing different), I checked TravelSafe & for a $4000 trip, the premium is coming up at $35 or $50 (for the Ultra - whatever that is).

My question is - is $35 per person or for the whole trip. It seems to cheap for the entire trip. I've paid almost $200 for cancellation insurance in the past for other trips going thru AAA.

I hope I haven't been missing out on a great insurance tip for all these years.

We have used Travel Guard in the past and will continue to do so.

We did file a claim after our trip to DLP and Tanzania. Travel Guard was great in the processing of the claim.

Had to use the trip insurance (booked through DCL) on our first cruise in May 2002. My friend had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance the day we docked at Port Canaveral so we missed our trip home for a few days (his appendix burst the last night of our cruise). While he recuperated from the surgery, I had to stay in a hotel for a couple of nights and an additional couple of nights when he was released because he could not fly home yet.

Long story short, got home and filed a claim. I was SO impressed with how it was handled. Received FULL payment for our claim in a very short time - I expected a phone call or letter saying "this is covered, this is not covered (meals) but no, the check came no questions asked.

I DEFINITELY recommend purchasing the insurance.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am definitely buying insurance, I am just not sure which one. In the past, I have gone with CSA because I liked their silver plan where you could buy it up until final payment was due and they would waive the pre-existing conditions clause for non-traveling party family members. This worked well for us since we ourselves didn't have pre-existing conditions, yet I was covered if we had to change out plans do to a family member at home. Well, as it ends up CSA changed the rules on me. I now, they have the same policy that you have to purchase the insurance within 2 weeks of booking the trip. We booked our trip in April. Thus, I am now re-looking at other insurance companies to try to decide who to go with. I found that Access America and Travel Safe have attractive prices, and Travel Safe's pre-existing conditions clause is defined as 60 days prior to insurance purchased-- which is fewer days than some of the other companies. That's got me to thinking about service if you have to file a claim, since that's what counts as much or more than the price of the policy.

At any rate, I appreciate the input. If anyone else has any experieces, good or bad, that they want to share about filing a claim, I really appreciate it. :chat:

Thanks!!
