Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me? I went on a DCL in Aug and then to AKV afterwards. My flight home was cancelled due to a hurricane and I had to stay an extra night. No problem the insurance - Travel Select covers everything. Well, I used 38 points to stay the extra night. Now I'm trying to get DVC or wdw to help me convert the 38 points into a cash equivilent. I can't see how this is a problem. I mean you can opt to pay part of your stay as cash and its done easily. Why can't they give me something that says what the 1 bedroom costs for that one night. They had an attitude that I didn't use Travelguard the company they recommend. Which means to me they have to have so kind of formula they use for Travelguard. I'm hitting a brick wall and don't know what to do next.

DVC will transfer points to members for $15 per point. You could try and use that number as the value.

The insurance through DVC only reimburses $5 per point. Do you have a copy of the flyer that comes with DVC reservations? The formula is on there. I think it's way undervalued. If I ran into that situation and had insurance (not the DVC), I would have used cash. Other insurance is not designed to work with points.

Most travel insurance companies typically do not reimburse for timeshare stays. Legally, points have no monetary value, so determining a cash equivalent is not truly possible from the insurance companies viewpoint. Legally, you own the timeshare, so there is no additional out of pocket expense for the additional nights accommodation. You may get food or additional rental car expenses, but likely nothing for the room.

If you'd stayed on cash for that night, you would have a claim. I'm thinking with points, your claim will not be approved.

Note to self do not use points for travel emergencies use cash.

I hope you get to it all straightened out.

I think this is the closest I've seen written down ($5). I called TG once to get an idea of the cost/pt for reimbursement the agent mumbled five point blah blah and I said "Oh so it's about $5/pt?" and she immediately said "No no... forget you heard I said that. The price will be determined by DVC when we confirm with them the cost of your unit.".
That's the closest I've gotten to find a #... :confused3

Good luck with getting a reimbursement...

MS told me the other day when making a reservation, about the Ins. She said, " $5.00 Per Point." Sure hope this all gets works out. $5.00 doesn't even cover dues at some resorts. I find it extremely low.
