We are going on a Disney cruise over spring break this year and we have trip ins. My question is our school district has a policy that if we use too many snow days we lose days from spring vacation, do you think trip ins would cover us for that or no. I a am also worried about the flights since we will not be flying again this year.

We booked our trip ins right with Disney cruise lines and the info I am finding is not very helpful.

lol, sounds like your worrying about something that will never happen, I know the School around here use snow days like there candy, and once there all used they just write down to the State Capitol asking for more, and they give them more

It happens to us every year we end up using all our days but we did not go over last year. If we go over I will not be able to go.

This probably isn't a popular thing to say on the Dis BUT, who cares if your kid's spring vacation days are cut short? You have a vacation planned and if a few school days are missed, I sure wouldn't be stressing over it.

I am a teacher so I don't think I would be able to miss those days

I think the OP works at a school, so I think she's worried about being able to take the time off herself, not just that the kids will miss school.

OP, you will need to check the exact terms of the policy you bought. Often, missing for work-related reasons is "something extra" that is offered by some policies. It is not necessarily standard coverage among all policies. When we took our Disney cruise, coverage for work-related cancellation was something I wanted, so we ended up buying the trip insurance thru a third party. (There were several criteria I was looking for though, and our cruise was several years ago, so you'll want to check the terms of the exact policy you bought.)

ETA: I found this on the DCL website. These are, I think, the details of your coverage. http://dcl.wdpromedia.com/media/dcl...PlanningCenter/DCL VPP DofC v75 06.29.15.pdf I don't think work-related cancellations are covered outright, but you can apply a certain amount of your deposit toward a future cruise, with some limitations.

Is your insurance through DCL? I'm not sure they have "cancel for any reason" coverage.

We never purchase through the cruiseline - you can get better coverage for a lower price by using one of the various travel insurance comparison sites.

The policy we have says weather and death in family. So I don't know if this would be covered under weather.

Can you not get a sub? If you lose part of spring break every year then it seems kind of foolish to book a cruise for that time without first talking to administration to make sure you could go even if the break is shortened. Otherwise, I doubt standard trip insurance will cover it.
We have not used any snow days here yet but I want to make sure I am covered with this . I can get a sub.

do you remember who you booked with

I doubt it. In most of the policies I've read, to cancel for weather-related reasons your out-going airport or incoming airport has to be totally shut down due to bad weather in order for the weather clause to kick in. I am pretty confident that they wouldn't cover a weather event that happened weeks/months earlier. What you're talking about is a work-related cancellation.

If you can get a sub then what's the problem? If you start using snow days and they start taking days from spring break then put in for a sub for those days, leave your lesson plans, and go. I wouldn't be stressing over this at all.

I am stressing because this trip is a lot of money and we have a limited number of subs. I pray we don't get snow

I wouldn't worry about it as everybody else said. Since you say you are eligible for a sub, just get one. You should know long before spring break whether or not you will school or not, so if you have to use spring break days, arrange a sub as soon as possible, before others. In fact, I would be calling your favorite sub right now and arrange it with them that if there is a possibility he/she is needed, they will sub for you.

I have to say I am very jealous though. Disney World at Christmas and now a cruise over spring break! How fun!

If you have other questions, you might be better off asking on the cruise board.

I bet there will be many teachers in your position, having vacations booked already.

This is our first cruise so I am a little stressed with everything. It is nothing like planning our Disney Christmas trip every year

Our area has a bad shortage of subs too. All my teacher friends lock in their subs as soon as they know they might need them. If they were in your place, they would be arranging a sub right now just in case. They would call their preferred sub and tell them that they are going on a cruise over spring break and then ask if would they commit to subbing for them if on the off chance there were makeup snow days over spring break.
