Hi everyone! I have been reading for awhile and I have seen some great tips. I was wondering if you could help me.

Basically I'm a starving college student and I'm going next May/June 30th - 6th with my boyfriend and bestfriend. The tickets are taken care of and the hotel is also but still I need help with budgets. Any tips? I'm looking for everything from getting to the hotel (All Star) to eating to tips on pleasure island (i'm 21) to anything and everything else.

Any help would be great!!

I know I'm planning quite early but what can I say? I love Disney and I'm very excited!!!! Thanks guys!;)

chats on monday tuesday and wednesday that deals with tips and food and hotels at disney.........because you are staying at ALL STARS....they have the best food courts......you will find alot of your best bets right there.......coming from the Airport to the Hotel.....if all three of you are coming in at the same time......take a town car....Mears shuttle would be the same price as a town car.....and a town car will also give you a chance to stop at the store for a half hour.....and get some water or snacks for your hotel room.....saves a little........FLorida Town car is very reliable and does a good job.....and you only go to your hotel and not two or three before you are dropped off.........Remember to get a refillable cup at the hotel and use it for your meals or just for a drink anytime at your hotel.....this is a great deal and well worth the money......Hope some night you come to chat and we can answer more specific questions

Here are some tips from a fellow starving college students.
Breakfast - bring food or go to super market and get breakfast food (cereal, fruit, breakfast bars)
Also buy waters and drinks for your room and to bring to park...bring snackk food as well to the park.
Pleasure Island- every time I have gone Pleasure Island (including the week you are going) I have gotten a great deal where you pay admission for one night and you pay an extra 5 dollars for 5 additional nights. - Also pre-party in your room w/ beverages bought from a local liquor store so you don't have to buy as many drinks at pleasure island.
Lunches- you can pretty cheap at the counter service places and you may be able to split some of them.
SAVE...SAVE...SAVE befor eyou leave. your time there will be much more fun the less you have to worry about budget. You should be fine if the hotel and tickets are already covered. I went last may and had the same deal (50% hotel and free tix due to a cast member friend)
My money always gets drained at the rose & crown bar in UK pavillion...its real fun and you start buying litres of great UK ales and lagers and then your tab comes 2 hours later.
Hope this was a good help....Have fun

thanks for all of the great advice!
i have another question... we weren't planning on renting a car bc of staying on site so its between mears or a town car. my question is what is the price difference? is the car a flat rate and mears by the number of people? i haven't been able to figure it out. the stop at a grocery store would really help us get food for the room. also i have read about sending a package to the hotel before you get there with food. would you say this is a good or bad idea? will they mind or have a hard time finding it once we get there?
thanks again guys!

I know this sounds kinda strange, but I always rent a car with National for a day. You pick it up at the airport and drop it off at the Swan (I think, or the Dolphin, I can never quite remember). Do the same thing for the return. I have found this cheaper for a number of people ($25-50 for economy car in total compared to 25 a person for a round trip) Look into it, seriously.

With the food, split meals, especially at the better resturants. We do it all the time. The portions are usually large enough.

Enjoy!!! Have fun! :jester:

remember that is is usually a bus or a van and it goes to maybe two or three other hotels before dropping you off.....no stop at a store either.......I can't remember what the price is......27.50 per person and then a tip.......Fl tour car is 85 dollars and there is a coupon on the site too......so if there are three of you.......the price is almost the same.....without tips of course.....and no stop at a store for snacks and soda or water .....I like the luxuary of a town car picking us up ...wow........it was fantastic.....

I found there site

I would go with the town car since it is roughly the same price. Also, unless one of yall is over 25 a rental car for one day from national is outrageous! They charge a $25 per day fee for drivers between 21-25.
There have been some great suggestions so far! Many we are going to make use of! (WDW CM going with my friend in May, gotta love those discounts!)

If you're still a TDS CM and have your ID Mon and Thurs are CM nights where CMs get in for free (Not sure about TDS CM's, but check). Also if you have an ID ask about discounts everywhere! If you dont eat much order apps or share a meal. Try to avoid sit down restaurants (although there are some great ones!)

AND SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!!

hey ilovefh--
you are a cm?? awesome! i also wanted to find someone to give me some insider tips! i have heard a few really cool ideas from people at work.
"If you're still a TDS CM and have your ID Mon and Thurs are CM nights where CMs get in for free"
were do i get in free? i was under the impression i would get in free to the parks all the times with my id. do you mean pleasure island? i heard something about thursday night might be free for cms. also do you know if i can buy tickets in advance for a discounted price?
the car rental doesn't really sound like a great deal in our situation so i think we're going to go with the towncar - so we can get food!
as for restraunts we are going to go cheap except for a couple nights (i want to go to the liberty tree for dinner and also the dinner in mgm can't remember the name0. i want to save money but also have some funa nd nice memories. any other restraunts a must??

LOL Yeah I meant pleasure island! (i typed my response twice because my computer shut down on me in the middle. the second repsonse was a little less than the first:D )

When we go I really want to try Le Cellier in Canada. I have heard such great things about it, and we tried in Sept and it was booked, so hopefully this time! I am pretty sure as a TDS CM you can order discount passes over the intranet. Hey wait a minute. Come on over to the CM board!

Disnee Dad Says................................You need to learn how to pack! Some people post I'm not doing laundry on vacation.
I hope you realize, the more you do laundry, the more room you have for food on the way down, and more room for stuff on the way up. No paying for shipping.
Mears or a town car? I f you are three, the towncar is cheaper than Mears. And you don't need to worry about 50 other passengers!

Hey guys I thought about another thing I wanted to ask!! ;) If we take the bus to Pleasure Island (we aren't renting a car) how do we get back to the hotel? I think I read somewhere that the buses stop 1 hr after the parks close. Isn't Pleasure Island open until 2am? How do you guys sugest we get back?!? Let me know!!!

Disnee Dad Says..................................Make sure you bring a hot pot. It is basically an aluminum heating coil surrounded by a plastic pot. Cost is $10-$15 at most. It will heat any kind of soup, stew, water, even chili but you must stir a lot as it will only heat what is on the bottom. Spaghetti in the room. Fill hotpot 3/4 full with water, when it is boiling add spag. When it is done, remove spag and empty hotpot. Put in some spag sauce ie Prego, Hunts, your choice, into hotpot. Keep stirring, all the heat is on the bottom. In less than 5 minutes you have hot sauce. Pour on spag, and if you brought down a small canister of parmisan cheese, you are set! And if you use it for Top Ramen, you can get a meal for 20-25 cents!

We're not big dinner eaters, so we usually like to make our PS for the last lunch seating and eat our 'big meal' at that time, then we have a small dinner somewhere quick. We love LeCellier, and you can usually find the same items as on the dinner menu for less - another good way to save! Here's a great site with all the menus: http://www.wdwig.com/menu/menus.htm

Hey guys! Great tips!! We'll be staying for 7 Nights and 8 Days so we are hoping to fit in maybe 2 or 3 really nice dinners/lunches. We'd like to get dressed up and go somewhere fancy. Any tips on what places are really worth the $$? I've been to the Liberty Tree Inn and I told them we have to go there. (That isn't really expensive) Do you need PS there? I don't remember. Another place I was looking at was the SciFi Drive in. Is it worth it or as neat as it sounds in the books? Anywhere you guys can tell me about is great. Also anywhere you know of that we could get dressed up for - one really nice night out. Please pass it on!! ;) Thanks guys!!!

DisneyGal,
DH and I are both law students, so we are always doing the budget thing!

If you are going to eat alot of Counter Service, consider joining Connections to get the meal vouchers for $11, each covers a combo meal, drink, and dessert, and can be good deals. I'm sure you've read about them here on the DIS, but if not, do a forum search or go to Mousesavers.com Don't buy them on ebay, they're really overpriced there.

The vouchers are a really good deal at Tangerine Cafe and Beaches and Cream. I would reccommend eating at Tangerine Cafe (take out in Morrocco in EPCOT) even without vouchers because the sampler platter is big enough for 2, and they have an inside, air conditioned dining area and it is not burgers and fries, so it feels like a "real meal".

Beaches and Cream is also a neat place, and with 3 of you, you may want to try the Kitchen Sink. It is $21, and you're not likely to finish it, so I wouldn't do it without a voucher. Food is okay there, not great, but the desserts are amazing!

Another good deal for budgeters is the Meal Deal at AK (Disney sells this for $10.50 and you get a combo meal, drink and coupon for a bottle of water and either a popcorn or icecream later in the day.) Best place to use it in AK is at Tusker House Resteraunt. We bought 1 deal for the two of us, and used it for a half rotissere chicken, vegetables, and mashed potatos with gravy and a drink, and then bought an extra drink for lunch- about $13 or so total. Then later in the day, we used the snack coupons for a soda and box of popcorn. This is yummy food, and you don't have to buy anything ahead of time.

For cheap eats at PI, go to Wolfgang Puck Express and split a pizza. WPE is a little high on sandwiches and stuff, but very good, and a good value if you split pizzas, which aren't much more than the price of a sandwich.

PI had a deal the last time we went there (not on our last trip)where you bought a mug/bucket type thing at the beginning of the night and got discounted refills, so if you're planning to have a drink, this may be a good deal for you. Sorry, but I've forgotten alot of the details of this one, and don't know if they still have it even.

I agree with one of the other posters, eat breakfast in your room, then have a late lunch for your main meal of the day, and a counter serivce dinner, maybe split, or snack later. I personally avoid the Disney buffets bc I don't eat enough for them to be worth it, but that's just me.

About the Mears/Rental/Towncar: mears is slow and expensive if there are more than 2 of you. Rental is really high once you had the under 25 charge. Go with a towncar, we used YourRide, that has a 30 minute stop. If you are planning on buying alcohol, ask them to stop at a liquor store instead of a grocery store. Bring snacks and stuff in your luggage (cereal bars are not as heavy as glass bottles). You can do the refillable mugs and get milk and drinks from the food ct at the AS. We also pack microwave popcorn and fruit snacks for the room.

Last thing, sorry this is long, fresh fruit is like 80 cents in the parks, so if you need a snack between breakfast and lunch, an orange or bannana is a cheap, healthy thing you can easily get in the parks.

Hope you have a great trip!

Also, don't forget about kids meals in the parks and at the restaurants! (Usually full-service restaurants prefer that you order an adult menu, but quick-service doesn't care most of the time.)

Wolfgang Puck has great kid's meals, and their macaroni and cheese is absolutely incredible. A significant portion of the money I made on college program was probably spent on their chicken fingers and mac and cheese. (Seriously -- it's awesome. And not that expensive.)

ESPN has reasonably priced food with good-sized portions, and they will let you order kids meals. If you go there, ask to sit in Shaun, Devon or Lisa's section -- they'll all take great care of you.

Cast night at Atlantic Dance is Wednesday nights. There are $3.00 drafts and all kinds of other drink specials, and admission there is always free.

If you use a towncar with a 30 minute stop, ask them to stop at the Winn-Dixie on 535 or at the Publix on Vineland Rd. Both have liquor stores right next to them. (That Publix is right near all of the college program apartments, too, and they usually have great prices on beer.)

For a really nice dinner, I would suggest Flying Fish, but it is really pricey -- especially for a college student. They are pretty good about people just ordering a few appetizers to split and dessert, though, I've done that a couple of times. Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge is really good, too. Neither restaurant is open for lunch, though.

The jello shots on PI are strong and cheap. Don't take 4 and then try and navigate the stairs at the Beach Club. Also, Mannequins pretty much turns into a gay club on Thursday nights. (I though it was tons of fun, but some of my guy friends were less than thrilled!)

Lots of CMs hang out at the Orlando Ale House right on 535. (It's almost immediately off-property and really easy to get to. They have tons of beers on draft and good drink specials.

Do you like TDS? I'm a college student too, and I was thinking about getting a job there. Is it fun? Do you get any cool benifits? Let me know.

~Kristy:D :D :D :D :D
