Help!!! I'm so confused. :confused3
I know I want to buy medical insurance for our trip, that is the easy part.
The hard part is the trip/cancellation insurance.
I have found insuremytrip.ca but I'm not sure how much $ I need to put in per person?

We are planning on flying SWA, so we can change the tickets if necessary and get credits, I'm pretty sure our package from Disney can be changed only losing the $200 deposit, although I know I have to check that.
But I know if we need to come back for some reason, once we are there, we will need the insurance to cover that. Also lost baggage etc.
See I told you I was confused! :surfweb:
Any advice?
Thanks!

Does it not all come together? When we bought our Deluxe insurance package through RBC it was all combined and it was only 400 dollars for the five of us for 10 days. It does sound very confusing!

Hey Fabooliss... I hope I can help as much as possible... I travel a lot - not just to Disney to I always have to purchase insurance.

I have never bought through insuremytrip.ca, so I can unfortuantely not offer any advice on that... But I decided to check it out... I'm going to Africa in 2 weeks for a month, so I used that as a reference. I was offered Trip Cancellation insurance thru travel guard, which I found to be interesting. If you go to travelguard.ca and read their policy on Trip Cancellation insurance you will see "Plan must be purchased within 48 hours of your initial trip payment." hmmmmmmmm... insuremytrip.ca even let me go to the payment page and fill out my values... So I went through the booking process and when I filled out my initial trip payment as February 1st, I could not proceed to pay for the insurance. If you're outside of 48 hours of initial payment, looks like you're out of luck.

Anyway... For my upcoming trip, my last trip in September and my Disney trip this past December, I purchased for $70.00 (age group 18-35) enhanced coverage from RBC Visa - I'm a card holder. I'm covered for emergency medical, trip interruption (NOT cancellation, but I'm not cancelling, don't matter the circumstance!), baggage, flight accident and travel accident. I'm satisfied that's all I need.

In the past, I bought from Travel Guard for about $56 I think medical and baggage separate??? - it was 5 years ago and I wasn't satisfied with their customer service - or lack thereof - when I broke my hand slipping in a bar on a floor spill while out of country... Let's say the fact I was in a bar didn't make it an easy claim. Thankfully the doctor could vouch that I was not intoxicated

I agree with tone.def about RBC, most of the big travel companies recommend them, i logged onto my online account with RBC and got a quote i could live with! It was much cheaper then insuremytrip.ca and i know with RBC if i have any issues they will take care of me.

I don't think you need to have an account with RBC to get trip insurace, you just need to check out there web sites. I went ahead and found it for you. Just need to click on the link

Yes you do not need to be an RBC customer. We booked our flights online direct with Air Canada and RBC was offered while paying for our flights. I am not a big fan of credit card insurance.. upgrades or otherwise as their are just too many loopholes. Our Mastercard platinum covers everything if we charge it to the card but credit card companies are notoriously slow on claims same with AMA insurance and RBC vacation insurance has a very solid reputation. I highly reccomend it!

Thanks everybody! I also checked out PC Financial, who have beaten everyone else so far.
I'm going to look into if my credit card will cover it (wouldn't that be nice... something for free!) :)

Just a few notes on insurance:

When you're comparing various policies make sure to check to see that the terms are the same. Some companies will require you to pay upfront for items and then get reimbursed, some will pay upfront. Also they don't all have the same limits on expenses and allowances, so make sure that you're comparing apples to apples.

And RBC is used a lot because they pay big commissions to the companies that sell it. Not that they're not a decent product but their commission levels are pretty high especially for big volume sellers.

Weigh the actual loss against the cost. Disney has one of the best cancellation policies in the business. Also be clear on the covered reasons for cancellation/interruption, they too can vary from insurer to insurer...and be clear on the maximum covered per person if your trip is interrupted.

I agree about looking at a package insurance....in most cases is less than pricing it all seperately.

We only EVER use CAA. Great rates and the service was wonderful. ALSO able to pick up all kinds of info regarding the place we are going to. We have maps of The Orlando area, Florida, tourbooks etc! If you are a member just haffa go in and ask for every & anything you want & it is FREE. If you are not a member it is pretty cheap to get and it pays for itself the 1st time you need a tire changed in the winter or lock your keys in the car They also will exchange your money for any currency & take passport pictures for the cheapest rate we have ever seen :rotfl2:

Don't need medical, got coverage at work.

I used RBC for trip cancellation and had an claim I didn't think I could get covered. DW got Norwalk on the Wonder and although she was fine the next day, medical protocol dictated she had to be quarintined. I filled a claim with RBC for the lost days at sea and they refunded me a couple hundred bucks.
