I need some ideas for a graduation trip for my daughter. It would just be the two of us. Here's some info. I like beaches, but am deathly afraid of water and have motion sickness (I don't want Hawaii because of the hours of flying over water). She doesn't like doing things by herself or with total strangers (no snorkeling because I won't do it...). I have pretty much eliminated Europe at this time because I believe it would be too expensive.

So give me your best ideas and BE CREATIVE!

You don't want to cruise, go to the beach or Europe. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but why not go to Disney? :confused3 You know what board you're on right? ;)

Why don't you fly to Acapulco, Cabo, Bermuda etc? You'd get your beaches, there will be plenty of other things to do and it won't be too far etc.

New York City could be a wonderful trip for the two of you. Lots of things to see and do there.

This is what I am doing with DS in 2008 for his Senior trip. We have never been and think it will be a lot of fun. I had always wanted to go to Europe, but DH is adament that we not leave the country.

Other ideas:

A cruise or train/bus trip to Alaska lots to see and not a lot of "water activities" other than the ship.

An African safari

Have fun planning

We do lots of Disney trips (have one coming up at Thanksgiving). I keep thinking that it would be nice to have a vacation where we just do nothing....but I'm not sure that we can lay on the beach and just "do nothing"!!!!

I also have physical limitations due to spinal problems so I can't do hiking, horseback riding, or strenuous activity. I can walk forever, though!

Keep the ideas coming, please :thumbsup2

I forgot to add that DD would LOVE to go to Europe or South Africa but I do not want to go into debt for this trip or have this be my only "vacation" for a year, so overseas is not a consideration (I told her that she can go to Europe when she graduates college or med school). I am also giving her Lasik surgery for a grad present......so that is why my budget is sorta limited for this trip!

Well, Europe would be probably less expensive then Hawaii and longer over the water but it is still worth a trip. My next suggestion would be Washington DC, plenty to do there, great public transportation. I like New York too you could incorporate a day or two at a beach in New Jersey if you wanted. There are a lot of coastal towns there with fun little shops too. Boston would be another option.

I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE San Diego. There you get the best of both worlds, beaches and a lot to do that don't require you to be on the water. You could also spend a day driving up the coast if you like.

We had great fun in Phoenix too. We stayed at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort, great pools so almost like a beach, good shopping and day trips-Sedona, Grand Canyon, etc.

We've been to DC (hated it) this past July. Been to San Diego before. This past weekend was spent in Tucson at the Westin La Paloma Spa and Resort (we saw the Lion King) and since we already live in the desert.....wanna go somewhere else

My choice would be New York City. When are you planning on going? My daughter and I went to NYC last year in June, right after school got out. I made our reservations in Feb. of 2005 through Travelocity and the price was about $2100 for both of us. Cost included RT airfare from San Jose, RT shuttle from airport to hotel & back, and hotel for 8 nights.
We had a great time. We did the 2-day bus tours of the city...the one where you can get on and off all day at stops all over NY. We shopped at Macy's and other stores. The shopping highlight was Canal St. and the great prices on purses, wallets, etc.
We also went to 2 Broadway shows. Again we had a great time...just us gals!!
My son will be graduating in June, 2007 so my husband and I are looking at
taking another trip back to NYC

How about Canada? You could try British Columbia-supposed to be BEAUTIFUL. I have been to Banff in Alberta and that is absolutely breathtaking. Nova Scotia is another place that is supposed to be interesting to visit.

How about the Black Hills/Mount Rushmore/Yellowstone/Grant Tetons type trip?

I KNOW, the UP of Michigan, Mackinac Island in particular. They have beaches, shopping, etc.!

What about California? Lots to do there, and beaches. Or, Marco Island, Florida. Beautiful there, and you could do some day trips to local areas as well.
