I called to upgrade from all star sports to a moderate and they said I couldnt...because my offer expired! I made my reservation on the last original day of the free dining offer 8/15. I was really surprised...I mean its more money for Disney! oh well...

???
Are you saying that there was no room available for you OR they said no free dining to change?

I'd def. call back and check online...;)

I would phone back. You'll most likely get another CM who may be able to upgrade your resort without problem.

To the OP.

When are you going? They may be sold out of the Mods. I tired to upgrade to a Mod as well but they are 100% filled up for my weekend.

It could be that there are no free dining rooms available for her dates. Each resort is limited to a certain number of rooms for each promo, and there just may not be any left.

That is incorrect. When you call you need to ask to upgrade your hotel, when they tell you it is not available, ask them to contact special services desk and ask if they can upgrade you. It is only the "special services desk" that can upgrade you, if any rooms are still available. The CM will talk to the desk, not you. The CM is the go between. I just did this with our trip in Aug. I made our orginial reservation in March (last day that offer was good) and then upgraded in June to a more expensive room. I kept calling and being told that nothing was available. I finally remembered to ask for them to check with the "special services desk" because my offer had expired, it was at that point the CM understood what I meant and it was done. Good luck. I hope that helps.

I may have the name "special services desk" wrong, but the CM will know what you mean.

Once a promotion has expired, a CM will have to contact Guest Services and allow them to view availability/make any modifications to an existing ressie. You are normally put on hold during this timeframe.

I would definately call back. About a week ago my DH called Disney to see if we could upgrade from a moderate to a deluxe (still with our FD package) and the first person responded by saying nothing was available but to call back about a week before we leave to see if anything opens up. He then called back to see about extending our stay at our original resort and happened to mention that he really would like to upgrade to a deluxe instead. He got a really nice CM who looked to see what was available for our dates and she found CR Bay Lake View opened, however she would have to get approval before actually processing it. She then talked to a manager which said that since we were within our 3 weeks, she would be able to process it since no one will reserve that room 3 weeks out. So now we are staying at the CR in a Bay Lake View and we are too excited about it.....we are not telling the girls about the change until DME rolls up to CR and we are getting off (they still think we are staying at POFQ).

I was hold for a long time...and he did say that there was no availability, but when I look using the new special of free dining some things come up for the same week, dec 2-dec 8...I am gonna try again. It just gets frustrating...calling long distance and then being put on hold for a long time. I do have a preferred room at sports...and if I change probably wouldnt have that...hmmm decisions decisions, lol. At some point I would like to say that I have stayed at every hotel in Disney at least once and so far Ive only stayed at POR.

I had a similar issue - trying to upgrade from a value to a mod and being told there was no availability for free dining.

The issue turned out to be that I was using the value offer code for the free quick service dining. There is a different code for the free dining for the moderates and deluxes. Find that code and see if that helps when you try to upgrade.

HTH!

I think it's Guest Relations you want them to contact. Last December, I had a reservation that I changed to another date and then decided to move back to the original dates. All in the same 24 hour period. Because my original room had already been given to someone else in a later reservation made that day, and it was less than 45 days till arrival, Guest Relations had to help me. Some CMs I've found don't want to be on hold with Guest Relations--it sometimes takes a while. But in your case, they will have to fo you to get that upgrade.

Please also know that the moderates, especially POR, are difficult to get for free dining. This, I believe is because they are the lowest priced resort for a family of five.

Im going to try again....The more I think about it, the more I want CSR...I like the idea of the bigger beds. Originally it was only going to be me and my 12 y/o ds, but now my sister and her 10 y/o ds are coming also...and this will be their first trip. I do really like the idea of the preferred room we have at sports...less walking when tired after a day of walking at the parks....but the bigger bed will be so much nicer since we will be sleeping w/big boys in the beds, lol.
