Our family is going down to WDW on Nov 9th..there will be 15 of us..we thought we would try the new MG that they have advertised, after being on the phone for about 45 min I was told that it won't be available on the time frame that we are going..do you realize how much that phone call is going to cost!! anyway just wanted to vent cause we are so dissapointed as we wanted to surprise my husband for his 70th birthday and now that is just out the window..I hope we can get something on our own but it would have been really nice to do one of their new family things..we usually go down with just the 6 of us but this time wanted to do something really special..anyway just don't get your hopes up and find out RIGHT AWAY IF THE DATES YOU WANT ARE BEING DONE AT THAT TIME..Marianne

Good tip and I hope you still hope you can all go to WDW in future together.::yes:: :wave2:

Considering that all of the MG stuff is just stuff you pay extra for - I would just call group dining and have them set up something special. We didn't think that any of the offers were that great. Group dining can come up with tons of things for over 8 people - since its going to cost extra anyway. Give them a call and see what that can come up with for your group,

Good luck!

I understand your frustrations and I would be upset about the cost of the phone call more than the fact that it was not avaliable. I assume you mean that you were trying to get this set up for THIS Nov 9... You do realize that is in 2 weeks. I am not trying to be rude or disrespectful, but don't you think that is a little short notice to be so upset that it was not avaliable... My friend tried to get a room just for himself that week and could not, let alone book a Magical Gathering for 15... Again I see you frustration but 2 weeks notice...

I believe the literature and ads I have seen and read say that they began taking reservations on October 9 for vacations beginning November 16. That has been in all the info I have seen, but I am so sorry you had to go through a phone call for nothing.

It doesn't start till after we leave!!after speaking with a MG adviser and telling her the dates we would be in DW SHE STILL DID NOT TELL ME THAT IT STARTED AFTER WE LEFT!! she asked for all the names in our party, ages of children, where we are staying etc..after 20 min of this put me on hold and came back saying that she would be contacting the MG supr and please hold, after another 10 min came back on and said the MG doesn't start till after we leave on the 14th..it starts on the 16th!! put me on hold to wait for the tour operter and when another 10 min went by I hung up!!Marianne ps I know about when to book and what could happen if you wait too long this was not the case!!

bunnymkc - I too would be very irritated that you gave out all that info, including dates, only to have them tell you it doesn't start until the 16th.

Sounds like a little more training needs to be done with these MG advisors to avoid mistakes like the one that was made with you today.

I too had a bad experience with MG. I saw that it started during our stay in November and thought Iwould check it out. I gave them a call and was left on hold for 20 minutes while they transferred me around till I got the right person. Then that person put me on hold for 25 to try and book the breakfast I wanted at Tony's Town Square then I got disconnected. I called back later that day and had the same experience. MG just isn't important enough for me to waste my time and money on so I gave up.

I know it doesn't make up for the aggravation of wasting time on hold when it should have been obvious up front that your group would not qualify, but as for the cost of the phone calls, I do have a suggestion for next time:

If you cannot or will not make such calls on a cell phone that has free long distance, it is a wise thing to do to go and buy a pre-paid long distance card at someplace like Wal-Mart. Regardless of what time of day or on what day you call, all of the phone time will be under $.03/minute, and you won't get billed for any of it because you will have prepaid it.

These cards are also the best deal for anyone calling from work, or calling home from the trip itself. (Tip about using a phone card from a hotel if you have to make multiple calls one after the other. Check your phone card for instructions on how to make your second call without actually hanging up. Doing that will prevent the hotel from charging you for more than one 800 call.)

Oh, and I second the motion to call group dining and see what they can offer you. A couple of special meals and maybe some printed sweatshirts from DisneyStore.com can make an otherwise ordinary group trip a bit more special.
