Trial Run for Dogs in Resort Rooms

Good luck getting your afternoon nap break when someone's unattended dog is barking to be let out in the room next door because the owners went to morning EMH and haven't come back yet...

Exactly. I tend to go back to my room mid-day for a break.

It won't be much of a break with a barking dog that won't shut up.

If that happens I will be at the front desk in a flash. And I won't give up until they fix the problem.

Yes, this. This thread got me curious so I did a quick google of pet friendly hotels in the Orlando/ Kissimmee/ Lake Buena Vista area and there are far more than I would have thought. And, they run the range from budget hotel chains to high end such as The Four Seasons.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Although there is obviously a strong objection to the policy change on this thread, the majority of what I am seeing on Facebook and IRL is quite the opposite.

I'd be interested how many of those non-Disney pet friendly hotels actually have exclusive areas and rooms for pets, since Disney decided to open up every building and every room to dogs.

This. They mentioned nothing about having to tell them in advance that you’d be bringing a dog with you. That’s what will happen. People will show up and add them and check in.

Or will they have to accommodate the pet owner over another guest due to their new policy if the hotel is booked.

Anyone considering moving offsite because of this, please check the pet policy at whatever hotel you pick....many hotel chains have pet-friendly policies now.

Agreed. The difference in my mind is that we pay a substantial premium to stay on property because things like this don't happen at Disney. I'm not ok with paying $200, $300, $400, $500 a night and being around animals.

I wonder where they will put the area for dogs to relieve themselves? They will have to walk through the hotel. It is easier in resorts with outside corridors I would think.

I'm usually just a reader and not a poster, but this is a really disappointing and frustrating move on Disney's part.

Families who own dogs can still go to Disney and enjoy themselves without their dogs; families who have to deal with dog-related allergies/ asthma/ phobias etc. can't enjoy themselves similarly with (non-service) dogs there.

l know that lots of reassurances have been written, but whatever Disney say, they don't have a history of dealing well with rule-breakers (leaving the non-rule breaking Guests to suffer); I wouldn't trust that deep-cleaning means appropriately deep cleaning (Mousekeeping already struggles); plus, there are so many other details that will affect Guests that wouldn't even occur to many dog-owners who support this.

I'm especially sad about the FW cabins as that was the area of FW you could stay that didn't allow dogs. There's nowhere else similar.

P.S. People have mentioned it was OK during Irma, but those dogs weren't left alone all day, their families were mostly confined to quarters with them.

ETA: Looking at the YC map (thanks dansdad), the dog relief areas are right by the more peaceful pool.

I agree in a way. I love all of my animals, and they are all adopted from our local shelter. I will always have animals at home. The family pet does not belong at Disney in the resorts. Kennels, sure. Not at the resort.

Hey, I get it. I have an outside dog and love him. He is well taken care of, but he is not allowed inside. When you have a CHILD with severe pet allergies and asthma being in close proximity with a dog can make life miserable! They cannot breathe, wheeze, get stopped up. I don't want them to be sick during our "magical" trip!! That is my complaint!!

Of course they will. I highly doubt there was this huge group of families who called Disney and said "We can't vacation with you because we can't bring our dog." Disney should have said "Yes you can, you can use the kennels".

Now imagine a family showing up with their pet and there are no available pet rooms and the neighbor at the room beside where they will be placed requested no pets nearby. Do you think the check-in CM will say, "I'm sorry, but you'll have to take them to the kennel, we have no room"? Nope.

I wouldn't bring my dogs just because I don't want to leave them that long. If someone wants to bring theirs that their choice. It's no big deal

I don't think anyone posting here hates animals. There was literally 2 days notice to this new policy It was not planned well...imo. People have reservations well in advance and now being told there is no other room or resort to accommodate them. Some have allergies and children that are afraid of Dogs for good reasons. Rules/policies are broken everyday at WDW and I see this being no different. Housekeeping barely cleans now let alone a deep clean, including carpets. Carpets take time to dry.

Like I said, it was a big discussion on another thread. IMO, nobody's disabilities trump those of someone else. I genuinely believe if a person is allergic to dog dander, they shouldn't have to be housed in the same room where a dog was, whether that dog was a pet or a service animal.

I don't think one disability trumps another, and in saying that you run into the problem of telling someone they can't stay in a certain room because they have a dog. Our dogs are medical equipment and will be with us in the room, park, restaurants, and bathrooms. My dog happens to be a small medical alert dog. At restaurants he is under the table and in park he walks or if to crowded will ride in a backpack just so he is out of people's way and won't get stepped on.

I would be in anaphylactic shock in minutes. I love dogs. I used to have a standard poodle. Over ten years, I was able to desensitize myself. Even though she did not shed, I was severely allergic to her saliva. She learned never to lick me and instead would put her head on my lap as a sign of affection. She died 9 years ago and my sensitivity has returned with a vengeance. I am in no way being cruel. I am trying to look out for my own health.

I agree. If I had faith that Disney was going to clean the rooms properly between guests, I wouldn't have an issue. But there's a difference between what the housekeepers are doing now, and what will be required in a pet friendly resort. It's not the housekeepers fault so much as it is Disney's because they aren't staffed properly to allow enough time to do the really deep cleaning that will need to be done. I also agree that the short notice is unfair. Maybe there won't be many dogs there the next week or two, but the people who booked early December are basically out of luck. I haven't seen much availability for my dates in early December, and no availability with any discount. So if someone needs to switch, they will be paying rack if they can find anything. There really should have been a few months notice, not a few days. At least for those of us planning our 2018 trips, we know which resorts to avoid, at least until we hear whether Disney has stepped up their housekeeping game.

I get what you're saying and seen other people say it. Here's my question, as I am not familiar with the Loews Hotels. Are they sprawling resorts like at Disney, or are they normal hotels with one building? There's a world of difference between the two. At the resort, the owners can walk about with their dog anywhere they want unless there are constant CMs policing the walkways. What's to stop them? That is a genuine concern for me.

What happens when these dog friendly rooms become unavailable because of damage or extreme mess? Then there will be less rooms to accommodate those that booked. It does not say in the policy that dogs are to remain crated so the dogs will have free reign of the room while the owners are gone for the day.
