My neighbors just returned from a trip to Walt Disney World. They said their granddaughter who is allergic to tree nuts had to go back down the stairs at the treehouse because she was having a reaction to the macadamia nut trees at the attraction. Has anyone else had a reaction to the plants at the treehouse?

My son has a tree nut allergy and has done the tree house at least 2x that I can remember. He has never had any reaction walking through the tree. Sorry to hear they had a reaction.

I just walked thru it in May.
I don't know where you could come into contact with any macadamia nut trees in the attraction. Most of the 'wood' railings that you touch are not real wood, as far as I remember. They are metal painted to look like wood. The trees that the treehouse is built into are not real trees and have plastic leaves.

And, most Disney landscaping trees are far enough back behind fences that guests would not come into contact with them accidentally.

My DD is deathly allergic to all types of nuts and she's never had issues at the treehouse. I wasn't even aware of any real nut trees in the area.

The thing is, you can't have a reaction from just being near nuts. Allergic reactions are caused by the protein in the nuts, which is normally not present in the air.

Now if someone were cooking nuts, the nut protein would be released into the air and that could possibly cause a problem. I have seen carts with roasted nuts in Adventureland (usually near the Jungle Cruise entrance). Perhaps the nut cart was closer to the treehouse that day or maybe the wind was blowing toward the treehouse and causing the girl to have some symptoms.

I have also seen that roasted nut cart.
Didn't think about it until you mentioned it.

Since they sell nuts nearby, I wonder if somebody who went through right before them was walking around eating their nuts and left some residue in the attraction itself (scary thought, isn't it?).

Do they cook the nuts in the carts from which they sell them? I never noticed that. Of course I likely wouldn't since those particular nuts aren't among our allergies and even if they were, none of any of allergies are severe enough that we have to worry about inhalants. It's amazing the things we don't notice.

I'm going to look better at those nut carts when we go in the fall.
I know there is the one mentioned in Adventureland by a previous poster and at least one in Epcot.
What I could find online said they sell roasted cinnamon almonds and pecans.
I do remember smelling roasted nuts by those carts, but don't know if they are actually roasting them or just putting the smell out there to make people hungry.

I thought I saw a cart at AK also, but don't remember where or seeing one at the Studio.
