We just returned from a fabulous 5 day stay at OKW, and passed by the treehouses on both the water shuttle to DTD and on the road that runs alongside the treehouses. What a mess! Obviously they were heavily damaged from last year's storms, as the trees and debris are still piled up and laying all over the units....how un-Disney like!

Question: does anyone know what the plans are for that verrrry prime Disney real estate? The treehouses have been there since the early days of WDW; what will they be being doing there next?

We asked one of the boat captains on our last trip, and the answer she gave us was that there was an environmental issue at the location of the treehouses which severely limits the use of this area. However, because of a grandfather clause, the Treehouses could be refurbished if Disney so desired. However, she said there were no plans to refurbish them at this time.

Have no idea if this is true or not, but that is what she told us.

to get this land back - WDW must put another piece of land in the protected lands.

if SSR kept selling - then they might - but it will mean tearing down the treehouses. they will not be rehab.

they have already make SSR bigger twice - I think they have enough land to increase it once maybe twice again - before they need the acres where the tree houses are located.

So in 2007 - if the expand SSR again - it will be the end of the treehouses.

Boo-Hoo!!!! Been hoping that I might get a chance to stay there one day. I am very sad. :sad2:

The land on which the Treehouses stand is officially a part of Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and has been for over a year.

Having seen the destruction from the trees (on the treehouses) I can't imagine refurbishing them. The fact that they are now part of SSR and potentially going into that development makes sense. Thanks.
