We are in very early planning stage of our next trip and I was thinking of renting points for the THV. How hard is it to get one? I know there aren't very many. We will have a car and I am thinking about going for the holidays 2011. Any suggestions on the best location or any special tips would be greatly appreciated. I don't know a lot about them but they look nice and it's perfect for our family of 2 Grandparents, Me, Husband, and 8 year old daughter.

Unless you have the 11 month window.. they may be difficult to get during the holidays. They are very, very, nice!

i have tried to get them at the seven month point at it was very difficult so we ended up staying else where. in the end this may be better since i am hearing that getting around is not very easy when staying in the thv

We stayed there in May and I called at opening time right at our 11 month window and I got the last one that was available.

I called at around the 11 month window and I was able to get one but we decided not to stay there because we were told it was a 15 min walk to the pool and we had little ones. I do believe we will try when they get a bit older:) Good luck. If you are buying points you have to find someone who has SSR as home resort. This give you the 11 months out!

They are wonderful. The THV pool is right there so not a long walk, but it's about a 5-10 minute stroll via walkway to the main pool at SSR. Good luck! :goodvibes

We stayed at one last month. We did 4 nights - when I booked, I had to wait list the last two nights. i checked for the whole summer and most nights were booked (IIRC, I did this after 11 months, but before 7).

Definitely try to get one and wait list if you can't.

We found the walk a little long to the main pool, but the THV is right in the middle of the units (where we were), so it wouldn't be a long walk even from the furthest unit. Also there is a bus that continually runs between the THV and the main SSR, so no long walk is required for the main pool either.

They are really nice inside. They are smaller than other DVC, but laid out well. They seem to cut space in the bedrooms (meaning smaller beds) but make up for it in a good sized livining room/dining room/kitchen.

If you are planning on using your car mostly, I would recommend near the north bus stop, it will make getting in and out of the villa's easy. If you plan on using busses and walking to the main area, then the south bus stop is the place to be.......

We stayed at the treehouses 5 times when our kids were young. They loved the setting and fact that we could go to the parks and come back to peace and quiet. I still remember them watching the peacocks and other small animals in the woods. You do need a car or as we did several times rent golf carts. Probably just as cheap to rent a car today. We also stayed at the THV's for New Years 2000 and had a houseful of visitors that night and it was great. You can actually follow the cart path to the golf course - i think it is hold 10 - and see the fireworks from several parks. Check with the pro shop since I can't rember the details but it was fantasic. We watched the fireworks and had a toast and were back at our treehouse by 12:30.

the tree houses no longer use golf carts and have changed since years ago. The only place that uses golf carts are the cabins and campgrounds at ft. wilderness

This idea that you NEED a car is mostly just a big push from people about why the THV's aren't good to stay at (which I don't mind so I can get in easier). Sure, having a car would be nice and can be convenient....but there is not a NEED for one and I would stay again even without one.

Granted, it would be good to be on the south side of the THV's so you are closer to the walking path and boat dock. It is about as convenient as anywhere else to the Carriage House and it does have its own internal busses (ran about every 10 minutes while we were there)......

I am looking forward to staying in the tree houses for the first time next June. We are there 4 nights before we go on The Dream:cool1: for a 5 night Cruise.
I do believe you need the 11 month window to get a week at the Tree Houses.

I disagree. We were there without a car, had a villa on the north loop, 2nd from the gate, and it was terrible. I would never stay here again without a car.

Just returned from our first treehouse stay and loved it! We did have a car with us so busses were not an issue. We were right at the pathway to SSR but were too lazy to walk to the main pool there so we drove. No biggie. Honestly, after 2 hours of hustle and noise at the main SSR pool, we headed back to the peace and quiet of the treehouse pool. Gosh did I love that pool. Wish we were there right now!

I understand you didn't enjoy it and wouldn't want to do it again, but that is a personal preference. I have made the suggestion that without a car, I would certainly want to be at the South loop, but honestly you don't HAVE to have a car and the idea that this is the only way to enjoy them is what I dispute. Some people don't mind buses, some people don't mind a 10-12 minute walk to Congress Park to skip the internal resort bus.

Honestly, we all have our own opinions. Take BCV, most people on the boards rave about it, but it wasn't all that to me. Doesn't mean someone else will or will not like it. Just like some people people feel you HAVE to have a car anywhere on WDW because they hate the buses.....
