Tuesday 12th April
I am always so sad to leave Disney even though we have the fab Portofino Bay hotel to look forward to for 2 more nights. We finish off our packing and load up the van and we are off to check in and get our front of the line passes. It is still fairly early and we are very lucky as there are two rooms already available and they are next door to each other so we have a very quick look around our new home off load the cases and we are off to go and explore Universal. We get a boat straight away and are very excited
The surroundings are very nice
We go to the Studios today as tomorrow will be early entry to Harry Potter so that will mean Islands of Adventure tomorrow.
I am so excited as I am very keen to try Rip Ride it Rockit
I have been waiting for this for months and have my tune all ready. It is The Devil went down the Georgia by the Charles Daniel Band which I usually play in our local on a Friday night. I was not disappointed - definately the best ride of the holiday - in fact probably ever! I was singing and dancing about all over the place in my seat, which must have been very annoying for Mark who was sitting next to me and his music was not working!
Next we go on the Mummy and this was as brilliant as ever. We all thought it was great. We are glad we have our front of the line passes as we go past everyone else and go on the wonderful Jaws ride which seemed even better. The Simpson ride made me feel a bit sick which is strange considering I was fine on real roller coaster. We go in the Simpson shop for a look round and the phone box outside starts to ring
Its not long before Homer comes out for a photo with us!!
The others then go on Men in Black but I sit it out as cannot be bothered to get a locker for this ride. Thats the one really annoying thing about Universal so many of the rides make you use lockers for your stuff.
We are now feeling peckish and look round for somewhere to eat. I remember last year we left the park and went to the Nascar restaurant and it was very quiet. Once again we were really lucky it was lovely and cool and empty in there. Me and Lisa had some cocktails and I had a lovely burger
We had a few more drinks then went back into the park and did the Shrek ride and then on to see donkey, shrek and Fiona
Our last ride in the park was ET and for the first time ET got all our names correct but this is because I spelt out Kirsty as they always say Christy.
We are all looking forward to going back to the hotel and going to the pool. On our way out I stop to get a photo with Dora
We walk back to the room to change and take in our surroundings
The room feels cold and I miss not having any outside area like we had at the Treehouse
We find a seat by the pool and order some yummy cocktails
The waiter comes over and we order another
The pool is very cold apparently, but it does not stop the kids having a great time
We spend a lovely afternoon by the pool
It is soon time to go back to the room to get ready to go out. The bar bill is very expensive as they add quite a large tip.
It is lucky we brought our drinks with us and we are fairly near to the ice machine so we have drinks in our room before going out to citywalk for the night. We take some photos of the bay at night
Our first stop is the shop in citywalk and we spend ages looking round. I get some Cinabon for taking back to our room as this was another must do for me and Kirsty. We had planned to eat at Pat O'Brien's as they do 2 for 1 cocktails but by the time we got there it was gone 9 and the kids were not allowed in, so instead we went to the pastamore the italian overlooking the river. Me and Lisa order some peach sangria which was delicious
We sit on a table outside which is me and Lisa's fav thing to do when its warm but we always find it hard to find outside tables, especially in Orlando.
The service here is unbelievably slow and when the pizzas came they were not cooked. The manager came over and apologised when they served the dinner and gave us the pizzas free. I had the lasagne and it was not nice at all. It was a shame about the food as the evening was lovely to sit outside
We do not order any afters and take a nice walk back to the hotel where we now have our afters
We have some more drinks in our room and then call it a night as we are getting up early in the morning to get the early hour at Harry Potter land
