Anyone watch the tree lighting? I was SO disappointed this year! Not only was there no skating ::boo hiss:: but also there was some weird medley of Celine Dion singing "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" segued into her rendition of Heart's "Alone"! :scared1: How on earth that had *any* relation to Christmas, I have no clue!

What were they thinking? :scared:

wow, glad i switched to cnn (and that's the first time i have ever said THAT).

Oooooh I missed it !?!?!
When was it on?

When we leaved up north we always went skating at Rockefellar Center in Dec. Now I have to just watch it on tv and remember.......This is the only time of year I miss the northeast!!

It was on tonight at 8pm ET. No skating though, so you didn't miss anything!

I changed the channel - it was horrible - so un-Christmas-y!! Since when is reggae-rap (or whatever that was) Christmas music? The hosts were so boring - the people in the audience looked bored. I turned on a rerun of King of Queens instead! :sad2:

Was it just me or did it look like Ashley Teesdale was not really singing. I dont know it just wasnt right.

The whole celine thing... I bet she told them I will since 1 song for you if I can sing another song off my new album. She is Celine she can do that.

:confused3 :confused3

Do you have any idea how many people from the Caribbean live in NYC? They celebrate Christmas also. Of course their idea of Christmas music is different from ours, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing..

I am well aware; I live in New York City and have worked here for 32 years. I have worked with Caribbean people. I didn't say the music was a bad thing; I said in my opinion it was not Christmas-y. The same went for the other singers and the whole show was boring, in my opinion.

It was HORRIBLE!!!
Tony Bennet screwed up the words to Santa Claus is Coming to Town!!!! How do you screw those words up:confused3 Ashley Tisdale was totally lip syncing, and what was with Celine singing "Alone"????:rotfl:
To tell you the truth the only reason I even wanted to watch it was for Nick Lachey....he's dreamy!!!

It was bad, bad, bad.

Yes, Tony Bennett mixed up the words, but at least he was really singing!! (and he's 81 years old!!)

Ashley Tisdale WAS obviously lip-syncing - and not very well.

And Celine was just there to push her latest CD - just in time for Christmas giving!!

But the worst part was that they didn't show the actual lights going on the tree!!!!! All they showed was Mayor Bloomberg pushing the big red button, and then the tree was all lit. It should have been at least a split-screen.

Poorly done, in my opinion.

I bounced back and forth because my youngest DD had to see Taylor Swift and then she was very disappointed with her Silent Night:guilty:

However, we were watching SHREK THE HALLS on ABC. Has anyone seen that? I'm thinking it was new this year as it had the babies on it. It was a riot!! DH and I laughed through the whole thing!!! Got to love the green ogar!

I just asked my Caribbean friend if they listen to Jingle Bells, White Christmas, Rudolph etc. in the Caribbean - she said yes, they listen to the same music we do. I thought so!

They should go back to one singer and a pro skater like they used to have with Peggy Fleming or Dorothy Hamill.
Dragging that thing out for 2 hours was absurd! :sad2:

Also I know they are energy efficient lights but the the colors look different. :confused3

I Was there. I went to the 5:00 Christmas Spectacular and looked at the un-lit tree and headed over to Times Sqaure.

I'm glad I didn't waste my time.

We DVR'd it while we watched Shrek The Halls and the Grinch. We watched the first song, and then fast forwarded all the way to the end when they lit the tree. Glad I didn't waste an hour of my life on that!

There was something horrible messed up with the audio...what was coming out of the microphones wasn't matching up with people's lips. :confused3 So I don't know if Ashley Tisdale was actually lip-synching or if it just looked like that b/c of the audio problems.

We turned it to the "Grinch." :rotfl:

I made it home just in time for Celine. My mom, stepfather and our au pair were all on the couch watching when I came in. My mom said "is this a christmas song? I know this song - who sang this?" To which I replied "Heart - it's on her new cd". And then we all looked at each other confused since it was a Christmas special not an episode of Oprah. I get that Celine has the negotiating power to do this if they want her to appear but I still thought it was really weird.

I also didn't like that we didn't see the lights turn on. Weird.

Def. not the best tree lighting.

She was definitely lip-synching. I like Ashley Tisdale and she's my favorite HSM alum, but I hate how no one from HSM can sing live. The first hour of the show (we got two hours of the ceremony here in NY) she sang "Suddenly" and she wasnt even lip-synching the right words! :lmao: Natasha Beddingfield sang live and sounded amazing, as did Celine even though her song choices were... weird. But few things annoy me more than when big pop stars lip-synch because when they can't sing live, they're obviously hiding something

The first hour of the ceremony was definitely better than the second. They sang more Christmas music, there was more of the Rockettes, and more information and video of Christmas around the city. And Josh Groban... can you imagine being able to just open your mouth and sing like that?! His voice is INSANE! It was fun seeing the tree lit at the end of the countdown and I enjoyed most of the performances, but it could have been better.

Turned it on when Celine Dion was singing her first song & thought "this is nice". Then she went into her other song. Didn't know that "Alone" was a holiday song? :lmao:

Was I the only one that noticed that during her songs, all the glasses on the tables had the same amount of liquid in them & that no one was drinking anything? :rotfl:
