This is a somewhat specific question but I'm hoping someone who's gone to MHP will be able to help out with it. In the past I've read that you could take the treats you collected during the party to city hall and exchange them for an assortment of peanut-free treats. Are they doing that this year? Our son has a peanut allergy so it would be awesome if they did that. If not, we can just get some safe treats from the store and exchange them for him after the party.

They have carrots, craisins, and a few other healthy snacks that I think are peanut free.

I've heard that the trade at City Hall is at MK, but I've never seen it at DL (doesn't mean it doesn't exist, though). As the pp said, there are peanut free treats at each trail/station. Just be sure to ask the CMs.

I remember reading a complaint thread a few years ago that the exchange was for a single type of candy and not the same amount they had collected. It might have been a WDW board, now I'm not sure. If you think you'll do a lot of trick or treating you might want to bring some of your own candy for variety.

Just curious... what type of candy do they hand out? Is it Disney specific or regular things like candy bars, suckers, etc. that could be bought anywhere?

It is basically stuff that can be bought anywhere. Some is Disney themed. Such as the Disney Fruit Crisps, but most is either Mars or Nestle branded. (Varies by year.)

Last year, we just told CMs at each station that our son had a nut allergy and they provided him with something different. But I suppose it depends on how severe the allergy is. My son is fine eating regular M&Ms, but I know some kids with allergies can't because of the cross contamination issues. But as PP said, each station usually had "healthier" varieties that would not have the cross contamination issue too.

But be sure to be in front of your child because they just kind of go into automatic mode and throw things in the bag before you would get a chance to tell them if he is in front of you.
