Treasures of Walt Disney at Chicago MSI

We went to MSI back in June for the Disney exhibit. It is about 1.5 hours from us. We are general MSI fans too.. I would say if you are just going for the disney exhibit it may not be worth it, but if you enjoy MSI it is a nice exhibit to add to your day.

The exhibit focuses on Walt's life and what happened in his lifetime so there is not really anything present day... its historical based.. how he changed the world of animation, development of DL, etc. There is also an opportunity at the end to learn to draw a character.. we didn't stay for it as it was a 10 minute wait for the next session and we wanted to move on to a new exhibit in the museum.

I took a day trip up there a couple of months back. I didn't have much interest in the rest of the museum (not for a day trip with other things planned anyways), but I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibit! A little on the pricey side, but for being a Chicago tourist spot and for all that was actually offered, I thought it was totally worth it.

There are tons of original props and artifacts: Mary Poppins' carpet bag, the books used in the opening scenes of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty, THE BEDKNOB from Bednobs and Broomsticks (love that movie), a recreation of Walt's office, Disneyland's opening day 1st ticket and 1st employee badge and so much more! I stuck around for the drawing session and it was much like the one at DHS. If a "museum" like exhibit isn't your thing then I'd say pass, but if you like Walt: One Man's Dream, then this is right up your alley.

I am becoming more interested in Disney history and was reading the Neal Gabler biography at the time. I knew a lot of what was mentioned, but I thought it was a really well done exhibit and will certainly give you a "Disney fix". :thumbsup2

For the most part but there are a lot of exhibits with actual characters clothing that were worn for Disney movies. Although we did visit other exhibits, I would disagree about just going for Disney. Remember you're on the Dis boards so I think the vast majority would find it very interesting. I wouldn't take any kids under the age of 12.

Spot on. I have a lot of respect for what Walt Disney accomplished and how his imprint is still on Disney today. Every time I visit HS is a stop at "One Man's Dreams" as it's a must do for me.
