Hi! We are going to be in Treasure Island Florida for a month because we are taking our daughter to an intensive Speech program in St. Petersburg for 4 weeks. Any info anyone has on Treasure Island would be appreciated. We are staying T the Residence Inn. We read about a day cruise to Key West from Fort Myers, how far away is Fort Myers? We will pop over to Disney on some weekends but any suggestions on any other activiteis would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
PammyPoppins

Hanging out at the beach is nice.

If your kids are little, you can go to the aquarium at the Pier in St. Petersburg. Its small, but something to do. There is some shopping and dining there too.

I like to go to St. Johns Pass and shop at the little beach shops there.

Go to the Shake Shack and get milkshakes! And the Candy Kitchen (maybe renamed Sweets and Treats) for candy and ice cream.

There is a beach line trolley that goes up and down Gulf Blvd. But I have never taken it, so I don't know where it goes.

I love the beaches there and also LOVE the acquarium. I didn't find it 'small' at all.

Thanks for the Great replies. We will without a doubt check out the Shake Shop!
Thanks,

We also have a new Dali Museum in downtown St. Pete. I have been to the old one but I haven't had a chance yet to go to the new museum but I hear its quite something to see. We also have a permanent Chihuly Collection in downtown St. Pete as well. Its beautiful!

The ferry ride out of Ft. Myers is about a 2 hr trip away from the St. Pete/Treasure Island area. I haven't been on the ferry trip itself but I think I have heard from friends that have taken it that its about a 3-4 hour trip down to Key West, which is faster than driving from our area down to Key West (it would be more like a 7 hour trip).

Treasure Island is a neat little area and pretty centrally located to a lot of stuff so it won't be hard for you to find things to do. There is a restaurant called the VIP Lounge that serves fantastic Mexican food there in Treasure Island.

Oh and those of you that have been to the Pier Aquarium, its in jeopardy of going away (well at least from the Pier). The city is talking of getting rid of the Pier altogether. Hopefully they won't-there is a large amount of people in the area trying to save it.

We stayed at Sunset Villa's, it was not much to look at from the outside but inside it was nice. Right on the beach and beside the shake shack too

This is where I'm looking at staying after a short WDW trip!

Does anyone have any suggestions for a one night stay beachfront in this area or clearwater? One that doesnt break the bank?

My inlaws own in Sunset Vista, so we have stayed there several times. There are 2 pools - a regular one and a kiddie one. It is right on the beach, so that is nice. Many hotels are across Gulf Blvd, so you have to cross the street to get to the beach.

DH & I like to eat at at Britt's coal fired pizza. It is on the corner of Gulf Blvd and 107th Ave. It is in a plaza with a Beach shop. It doesn't look like much, but if you like that type of pizza (coal fired, thin, yummy) it is really good.

Thanks Maggie! If you have any other tips I'm taking!

We got a 2 bedroom gulfview condo at Sunset Vista at hotwire for 168/nt. this August. We stayed at the Alden on St.Pete Beach last year. About $120/nt on BJWholesale Club Travel website. Wasn't 4 star, but worked for us. Has a living room/kitchenette and it was gulf front.

Where is the extensive speech program at if you don't mind me asking?

thanks
