I always hated them at the gym...
but I have decided if I want to keep a more regular routine I might have to spend a couple of days a week on one -
and I want one at home.

I am a newbie runner... would like to do the 1/2 next year... and I don't need a lot of bells and whistles - but I would like something quiet that will tell me the basics - how far, rater per mile, etc

I have a Proform that I got at a yardsale for $10. I love it. Of course, I'l love one with all the bells & whistles (like a TV), but this one tells how many miles, how long, how many calories and fat calories I burn and has up to 10% incline. For $10, I was thrilled! Check yard sales, thrift stores, Craigs list for your city, freecycle, your initial investment might be really cheap.

check your freecyle I agree. I gave one away a year and half ago on there and I know I'm not the only one.

I had a Proform as well wasn't top of the line but it did well for me.

You want something with a good horse power I think 2-3 at min. I did quite a bit of research when I got mine. I paid about $500-600 for it but it lasted for years and only reason I think it got broke was in the 5 moves I had while I owned it. The first 4 times it held up but in the 5th move something must have happened to it. The belt shifted and a piece was snapped but it was a simple replaceable part.

I loved it though :thumbsup2
